Welcome to USMC Day!
USMC Day celebrates the birth of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps were created during the Revolutionary War.
The Continental Congress of the newly created United States of America, authorized the creation of the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775. It was later renamed the U.S. Marine Corps. It is often abbreviated as USMC.
The Marine Corps has proudly participated in every war that has involved the United States.
If you see a Marine today, thank them for their contributions to protecting our country. Active or retired, they deserve our thanks and appreciation.

These Are the 'Good Ole Days' for Clemson (thetandd.com; Lentz)
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney believes this is the best time in the history of Clemson football.
“I hear the old fellas say, 'I remember this or that or those were the good old days. Those were the best times,' and I tell our team this is the good old days. This is the best of times. This is the good old days. I told our guys to enjoy it,” Swinney said.
The Tigers are making a strong case that this is the best time for Clemson football.
• No. 1 in the College Football Playoff poll and The Associated Press rankings, and No. 2 in the coaches’ poll.
• ACC Coastal Division champions with a berth in the league title game.
• 9-0 for only the third time in school history. The last time was 1981 when the Tigers won the national championship.
• Winners of 12 consecutive games, the longest winning streak since the 1980-81 season.
• 18 wins in the last 19 games for the first time since 1938-40.
With the victory on Saturday over Florida State, Swinney won his 70th game as head coach. He is just three wins away from moving into third place on Clemson's winningest coaches list. Frank Howard leads with 165 victories, Danny Ford has 96 and Tommy Bowden is third with 70.
The run of this Clemson team has been made on the heels of youth, with the team led by a bevy of freshmen and sophomores with names like Watson, Gallman, Scott, Cain, Guillermo and Alexander.

Clemson Fans Celebrate on the Field After Defeating FSU
ACC Football Roundup (dukebasketballreport.com; Sours)
Sad, sad things happened in the ACC today. Other interesting things also happened. Last week, the roundup did not round up, in protest of the intolerable officiating from the Duke-Miami game. This week, we have nothing to protest. However, since actual game analysis is too depressing, let’s talk postseason.
Atlantic Champs
Clemson (9-0, 6-0) – We don’t see them losing. After coming back from a 10-6 halftime deficit to FSU, they face Syracuse, Wake Forest, and South Carolina, all teams with 3-6 records.
Coastal Chaos is Basically Over
UNC (8-1, 5-0) – With a 66-31 beating of Duke, the Tar Heels have cemented themselves in first place. They would have to lose two of their next three (Miami, Virginia Tech, NC State) for second-place Pitt to earn a place in the ACC championship.
Pitt (6-3, 4-1) – Unfortunately, lost to highly over-rated Notre Dame. Fortunately, they still have a fair chance at the Coastal Crown, and are already going bowling.
A Snowball’s Chance
Miami (6-3, 3-2) – With a win over Virginia, 27-21, Miami stays (technically) in Coastal Contention. Yes, they have to defeat UNC, and then hope UNC loses its next two games after that, and then beat Pitt in the last game of the season. Oh, also, Georgia Tech is in the middle there, but they haven’t played this week, and lost last week to Virginia, also by the score of 27-21.
Duke (6-3, 3-2) – Sigh. The offense shows up to put 31 points on the board in regulation, but the once vaunted defense gave up 704 total yards, including 537 in the air, which is more than the Blue Devils had total (533). I told y’all it was depressing. However, Duke still has a chance at 10 wins, with Pitt, UVa, Wake Forest, and a bowl game still to come.

Eric Dungey Update: 'We'll Take It One Day at a Time Right Now' (TNIAAM; Keeley)
Scott Shafer had his weekly chat with Matt Park on Monday to discuss the recentSyracuse Orange game and look ahead to the next one. First things first, Shafer commented on quarterback Eric Dungey, who was injured in the closing moments of the loss to the Louisville Cardinals.
"The staff's working with him every day, making sure he's feeling better. We'll take it one day at a time right now."
Now, Shafer didn't use any specifics of course and you never want to jump to conclusions, but, you could read between the lines and figure out what's going on with Dungey based on that. Not good.
How is the rest of the squad dealing with injuries and disappointment as both continue to pile up?
"The bumps and bruises, they feel worse after losses. Not so bad after victories. Our kids are steadfast and continuing to work, fight and learn how to play the game at a higher level and stay true to having each other's back with the way we work."
In terms of the upcoming game against the Clemson Tigers, Shafer has high praise for the No. 1 team's strong defense as well as quarterback Deshaun Watson. He's also excited about the unveiling of the Plaza 44 statues, which will happen before the Clemson game.

Clemson Soccer: The Good and the Ugly (shakinthesouthland.com; York)
The men's soccer team had a resounding 3-0 win over Boston College in the ACC quarterfinals on Sunday. Clemson dominated the game from start to finish and clearly showed that they are one of the best teams in the country. Austin Burnikel scored the only goal of the first half, a header of an Iman Mafi cross. Mafi has been a great player at fullback at Clemson. He has been able to provide crosses into dangerous conditions and in fact leads the team with 5 assists. Clemson should have been up by more than a single goal at halftime; there were a couple of chances that Clemson would love to have back, including an Alex Happi shot from less than 8 yards out that he skied over the tennis facility.
The second goal of the game was actually a Boston College own goal that Austin Burnikel almost got a sliding foot to. The third goal came in the 68th minute from Kyle Murphy. John Cajka, normally a resrve player who was getting in some good minutes this game, was able to slip Murphy behind the defense with a well played through ball. Murphy had a one vs one chance with the keeper and cooly slotted his shot into the corner of the net.
Andrew Tarbell was called into action a few times and made some amazing saves on some wellt struck shots.
Clemson has been forced to shuffle around the lineup a bit due to injuries. Senior captain Kyle Fisher, one of Clemson's most important players, has missed the past few games with an injury. The normal rightback starter, Aaron Jones, has missed a few games too. Alex Happi, normally a holding midfielder, has gotten the start in Fisher's place and has performed well. In Jones's place, both Michael Melvin and Saul Chinchilla have seen time at rightback. An interesting move that Coach Noonan has made is moving Campos out of the starting lineup in favor of Grayson Raynor. Coach Noonan made a similar move when he decided to bring Manolo Sanchez off the bench. I think of it as a 6th man deal in basketball, similar to how the Spurs would bring in Manu Ginobili or the Warriors would bring in Andre Iguadola. I've been impressed with what I've seen from Raynor. He isn't going to wow anybody with skill moves like Chinchilla and Campos, but he takes care of the ball and is a sound player.
Syracuse upset North Carolina in penalty kicks on Sunday so instead of traveling to Chapel Hill to face a tough Tar Heels squad, the Tigers get to play at home against 'Cuse, a team they beat 1-0 a few weeks ago. 'Cuse will be a solid opponent. They will more than likely sit back, hold their defensive shape, and try to score on a counter. The game is Wednesday night at Riggs Field.
