Welcome to National Joygerm Day!
Founded by Syracuse Native Joan White 35 years ago...
Happy JoyGerm Day! January 8, 2015 is the 35st annual celebration of JoyGerm Day. As the holidays have ended and winter colds are everywhere, JoyGerm Day encourages all of us to share the best germ out there – joy!
We all know yawns are contagious, but smiles and laughs can be caught just as easily. Next time you go grocery shopping, look, smile, and nod at everyone you meet. You will be surprised at how many catch the JoyGerm from you and smile right back.
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

Logjam at QB Position at Syracuse? (insidetheloudhouse.com; Stone)
Syracuse football could have a very unique situation next year that certainly hasn’t been a problem for quite a while: too much depth at the quarterback position.
I know what you’re probably thinking, how could they ever have too much depth at QB after the situations they’ve gone through the past couple years? Let me break it down for you so that you might better understand the situation we could have next year. And trust me, it’s a good thing.
First, let’s go over the returning players. Eric Dungey will be back from his third “upper body” injury of this past season. Although he took some big hits and made some questionable decisions in the run game, he is the clear favorite to be the starter next year, at least at the moment.
He was head and shoulders above our other quarterbacks and showed a dynamic ability to run the ball and a fairly accurate arm as well. How well that translates into Dino Babers spread style, hurry up offense remains to be seen. But with nothing else to go by other than past performance, he’s the clear number one at this point.
Number two on the depth chart, at least currently, is Zack Mahoney. After walking on and being the fifth string quarterback, Mahoney quickly flew up the depth charts due to injuries. When given the opportunity, he showed impressive grit and determination in game situations. He played exceptionally well against LSU and even had a solid game against Clemson.
Mahoney is a magician in the read option, which is what Syracuse ran on over 70% of their offensive snaps. He knew just how to read the defense and get them to bite on the misdirection, something he did time and time again against Clemson. His accuracy is a major concern, but he does have a cannon for an arm, so perhaps he can improve his accuracy under the new quarterbacks coach, Sean Lewis.

SU Football: A Look at the Turmoil at the WR Position (TNIAAM; Pilatzke)
Johnny Huntley was scheduled to visit Syracuse later this month and then cancelled it. As a result, Syracuse sent out two new offers to wide receivers today.
With the recent news that Syracuse had withdrawn its scholarship offer from Sadiq Palmer for academic reason, it became clear that the Orange needed at least one wide receiver in this class, if not more. One of those targeted by Coach Babers and his staff was a Florida receiver who has an offer from the previous staff.
Syracuse originally offer Johnny Huntley back in March of last year. However, Huntley committed to Colorado in August. When the new staff took over for the Syracuse Orange, they again focused on Huntley as an option. Huntley scheduled to Syracuse for the weekend of January 15th. However, yesterday Huntley tweeted that he is 100% committed to Colorado and will not be visiting any more schools or respond to recruiters who contact him.
Other Options
Syracuse will continue to look for wide receivers in this class. As we have discussed previously, Moe Neal may be better suited for a slot wide receiver in Coach Babers' system than as a running back, especially if Syracuse brings in a bigger running back like Kentrail Moran or Sam Brodner in this class.
Another wide receiver target is DeVaughn Cooper. Cooper is a 5'11" receiver from Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California, who is rated three stars. Cooper is committed to Arizona but was offered by the Orange today. Syracuse also has shown interest in two of Cooper's classmates at Narbonne, offensive athletes Sean Riley and Cedric Byrd. Both Riley & Byrd are undersized RB/WRs but are lightening quick. Here's Cooper's Hudl highlights:

Dino Babers to Give Halftime Speech at SU vs UNC Hoops Game (cnycentral.com)
Newly hired Syracuse Football Coach Dino Babers will address the crowd in his first appearance as coach since being hired last month.
Babers was formally introduced on December 7th, and has been so busy recruiting and assembling his staff the Syracuse faithful haven't really seen him since.
That's about to change with what's sure to be a rousing speech.
Need proof? Watch the clip in this story of Babers' introductory speech where he laid out his vision for Syracuse Football.
Of course, this is all in addition to a Hall of Fame tilt between Jim Boeheim and Roy Williams.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim returns to the sidelines on Saturday for a highly anticipated match-up against Roy Williams' North Carolina Tar Heels. It will be Boeheim's first game back from a month-long, 9 game suspension.
