The success of the hiring process for his second head football coach should have determined Gross' fate.

But when Gross foolishly hired Marrone, he knew it was a no lose situation for him personally. If Marrone turned out great, he's the hero. But if Marrone sucked he could point and say, "hey look, even your own 'Cuse guy couldn't fix this program." Which would shift blame to alums and former players.

We're already in the ACC and it probably had nothing to do with Gross. Time to send this hotshot back to Cali.

Much of that is B.S. But, the fact remains - Gross has hired two failed football coaches in a row. That won't get you a contract renewal.

Sorry bud...your post fails.

TGD has been the best thing to happen to SU athletics in the past 20 years. Marrone was hired by committee, not by TGD alone

Gross has doen a lot of good in the Olympic sports. He has made some really good hires.

Fact is Gross was forced to fire Coach P very very late in the season. There weren't many options so he went to his buddy Pete Carroll who recommended GRob. Gross was put in a hard spot. Blame the people who forced P to be let go or Petey. IMO we kept GRob a year too long. Was Gross allowed to fire him financially? If so then you can blame Gross. If not, again not his fault. Gross tried to go out and get a HC to replace GRob. He failed to fine anyone and the best he came up with was Holtz, who is failing at USF. Marrone was forced on Marrone by naive people in the Cuse FB family. Can't blame him for Marrone. Now if Gross fails again in FB then it is 3 strikes and he should be out.

Gross got us into the ACC when the Realignment-Apocolypse just got going. He's earned plenty of rope from that move, imo.

Getting rid of Gross would be a mistake. Its going to be difficult enough to do a re-start with the football program, you don't want to throw your entire athletic department upside down at the same time.

Gross has completely revolutionized SU athletics. He has failed once horribly in football and is on the road of a 2nd BUT It is not easy to get a great coach at SU football anymore. Hard sell. For what they had, Marrone was the right hire.

Need to hire a college guy, no more Pro coaches who don't understand the college game is different. In college a successful QB finds ways to win games. Nassib would be great at a school, with big fast offensive linemen, who could give him all day to throw just not here. I like Marrone, but he's set in his ways doesn't see teams weaknesses. With West,Lemon,Sales 3 great possession receivers no-one to go deep. Kobena injured and Clark not playing, Minnesota wasn't afraid of being beat deep. Getting lemon back healthy actually hurts this offense, because Marrone goes with those 3 90% of the time.

Tough to even think about going deep when the OL is getting hammered.
