Former Syracuse Transfers 2024 Season

Tells you how bad our WR depth chart was at the time. I think it was 2 years running that Jones was talked up and didn’t produce much/stay healthy. Alford was highly inconsistent. Pena / OG were both injured and out for the season last year with little behind them.

People like to rag on Shrader but once Pena and OG went out last year - that was a rough one for him.
I’d forgotten about Jones. Whatever happened to him?

Transfered to New Mexico.

Looks like he had 170 yards and 2 TDs for them this season. Wait, it appears that's his stats from his last season at Cuse. Lol

It's hard finding stats for him. Maybe he never played though

the last I looked he was removed from their roster. Alford had 0 stats at Utah. They were considered our best two WRs under Babers. They went somewhere else and never saw the field.

Jones would make 1 athletic grab every couple weeks (when he wasn’t injured) and many thought he was going to be great. This year we had multiple of those grabs by multiple players on a weekly basis. Levels to it.

EDIT: Reminds me of a few years back Courtney Jackson went up for a ball in the endzone, I believe it was on the road against NCst in a blowout loss, and everyone was applauding him actually fighting for the ball.. This year we got to watch Jackson Meeks punk and bully CBs every single weekend. We as a fan base deserved this kind of year.

I had hoped that Alford would get out of his own way and put it all together. The potential there is very high. I certainly don't know what may be an interference for him, or if he is a negative presence in the locker room, but if HCFB thought he deserved another chance, I'd love to see it.
But, yeah, I don't see it happening.:(

Alford told HCFB that he'd participate in spring ball but might transfer after. HCFB told him, "With that kind of commitment, you'll transfer right now. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out."
Now that you post it, I remember reading that as well. I feel a little humbled (nicer than "stupid").

no kidding. Shrader had basically just a freshman Gill that was truly P4 caliber if you consider that Pena, OG, Meeks, Haynes (when around) + Gill were the key guys this year.
If I may...

Hatcher had an ok year until we stopped passing the ball.

Hatch ended up ranked 189 out of 195 P4 receivers in catch percentage, with a 49% catch rate in a year we had a passer at 66%, in the 2nd most prolific passing year ever in the ACC

(yes McCord is 2nd all time in YPG for the ACC)

He had a better season last season than this one.

We had far fewer talented WR’s last year than we did this one.

Hatcher was a slightly taller midget last season.

Gadsden - hurt.
Peña - hurt.
Meeks - playing ST’s at UGA.

I always thought/hoped Hatcher would be a taller/better Taj Harris.

But he’s yet another dude with million dollar athleticism and a 10 cent head.

The next time he fights for a ball or tries to break up an INT,
will be the first time.

I’d rather a kid like Gill or one of the RS or true Frosh get his snaps.
He’s just not a winning player.

If I recall I read somewhere earlier this week that he was red shirting this year.

Exactly. IIRC one of Devito’s father’s complaints was that our receivers were not good at contested catches so Tommy’s stats looked worse than his actual performance. I begrudgingly acknowledge that he may have had a valid point.

I wonder if this is the story HCFB referred to in a presser…something about walking a kid to the office to transfer because he wasn’t bought in.

that's probably true
Pretty kind of Utah to let him attend for free and maybe some decent NIL just to have him portal again. Not the goods they expected and good riddance or did he just play them?

His dad said…….. yup, I’m sure he did think that. There may have been plays that that was an issue but TD’s stats were bad largely from his own issues. WR’s being bad at contested catches were just add ons to preexisting issues.
