Fran Brown, Syracuse Football New Head Coach, Official Announcement

It's not like I have a choice but i’m all in!! This is going to be an absolute train wreck or an absolute home run. I'm definitely starting to lead more towards the latter. I was originally all in on Chesney, and then to the moon and back with Mullen, and then some what hesitantly back to Chesney with a bit of idgaf thrown in. I was well aware who Fran Brown was prior but to see such endorsements from guys like Kirby Smart, and the lessons he learned at Georgia, there isn't a lot of other people with that pedigree. The other part I like is this won't be another 3-4 year rebuild where if we went with Chesney I know a lot of our top returners would portal and it would be much harder for him to bring in talent. At least with Brown, I think we keep a lot of our top players, and get to bringing in higher talent level kids that we are used to seeing. The coordinator hired will be crucial. Plus we will finally find out if it is still possible to recruit to Syracuse football. The initial response from recruits was hopeful, now let's see if we can get them here.

All aboard the Fran train. Let's go

Pretty much sums up my feelings as well!

Preach brother. Preach. I hope when he is done playing the powers that be find a role for him in Syracuse. For example, JW should have asked Zaire to be on the coaching search committee!!! FWIW, Zaire has a different opinion about coaches using Syracuse as a stepping stone.
Probably hard for him with current work responsibilities. But agree - would love his long term involvement post playing days.

Split Zone Duo guys weighed in last night.

- Richard Johnson (SEC network, SI) was amped that they went back to back w black HC and that it doesn’t go unnoticed. (Black to Black!)
- Godfrey (WaPost) thought it was ballsy and has no idea how it’s going to turn out
- They all agreed that Mullen likes to have his name out there and likes the sound of his own voice lol. He was never going to take it but now it’s known that he’s open to coaching again. But mostly he’s an attention wh-ore

- Duke is way behind the 8 ball and we’re shocked that Elko left
- Lewis is a good fit for San Diego St and is a 180 stylistically from where they were. Also w PAC 12 imploding lots of recruits will be there for the swiping

It’s a good podcast and worth the $10 a month IMO

Good interview, wonder how much outreach the AD has had with football alumni

I received an email today from Orange United and the goal is to raise $500,000 in the next 50 days. That’s by someone matching the first $250,000. That says everything. That will not even get a sniff of a really good quarterback. I will make a donation, but that tells us how we are not even close to competing in the NIL world.

How does that tell us anything? It is a short term fundraising goal. That doesn't mean the total pot going forward is $500k.

That’s a 50 day short term goal for us little people. There’s an article someplace that says their goal for year 1 is something like $6-$9m.

I caught a lot of grief for speculating that wildhack would be wary of criticism for firing a black coach while still having a chance at a bowl. This doesn't necessarily show that Johnson would've been critical but clearly pundits notice

He’s a black pundit and naturally pays a lot of attention to it. I didn’t disagree - but thought Babers would be fired regardless of blow back. I can’t venture a guess at how important it was during this hiring - but would be comfortable saying they would be proud that it worked out that way. I am.

One pot of money should go into an investment account that annually throws off interest and dividends for NIL use. Grow the account over time with more donors / contributions, thus growing the interest and dividends as well. Allow donors to take their original investment back out if needed

i think their Mullen take is spot on.

Agree. Day2, you can't derail every thread on the board with your obsession with Mullen.

It is over. Please move on. If you feel compelled to comment on it further, do it in the Mullen thread only.

Don't mean to pick on Day2 only. Others are doing it too.

Please comment on Mullen in the Mullen thread only. There are a lot of things to talk about with Syracuse football other than this topic.
I haven’t commented in this thread since Legacy asked me not to. Maybe all of you are obsessed with me.

Sometimes blood is thicker than water if the dollars could remain somewhat similar.. I know what I would do if it were one of my buddies I grew up with who was at A&M. Rumor the change and either you get a big raise at A&M or you come to Cuse for a promotion and a similar salary and try to build something special. And let’s face it if ER comes in here and does a good job as a DC he’s will be a HC in no time. It’s a win win really. Those dumb bastards at A&M will just keep paying anyway, why not take advantage. Two boys from Camden gotta it figured out

I'm a blood is thicker than water guy...If I was already making hundreds of thousands and my buddy from my hometown called me and asked if I wanted to help build this thing I would jump on it. It's not like I'd go broke trying. It'd be a fun ride and a heck of a story... and you've gotta have a story.

Will be interesting to watch at the very least. I have no idea it may be one time that A&M can't just buy their way out but nobody knows if it's even on the table. Great spot for Robinson though to be in though

Will there be veteran / seasoned coaches who want to work for a young 1st time head coach or are we going to be regulated to a staff of guys in their first big jobs? Million dollar question.
In addition, what worst case for both, doesn't work and they go back to factories making BIG money as position coaches, not a huge risk really

He's never actually been a DC so it'll be interesting for sure to see what Elko does here to retain him.

Thanks for sharing this

When I was at SU a fraternity brother of mine ran for VP of Membership, which is pledge master. He presented an incredibly detailed plan, won easily, and then went on to run an amazing pledge class. It taught me a lesson about planning and preparation.

Great preparation doesn’t guarantee success — lots of factors determine that — but I’m a firm believer that you can’t have success without great preparation.
I have a similar story when I ran for President of my fraternity at SU
