Fran Brown, Syracuse Football New Head Coach, Official Announcement

Georgia fans are curious about what Fran is going to do as well.

Smart is not saying.

My feeling is that his time with Georgia ends with the end of the SEC championship game Saturday.

I know Fran will be his own man, but does anyone know what kind of access the public and or media gets at Georgia practices and throughout the off season? I'm assuming you can't get more locked down than what Dino did, and I don't expect him to open practice wide open, but a bit more info would go a long way of keeping people engaged with the team throughout the off season.

I understand.

I am not bothered by it.

I also fully expect Brent, Emily, or Dan T to ask that of him as one of their first questions.
It's a valid question. We just hired a DB coach that is also assisted by Kirby Smart himself as head coach of our prograam. Obviously 12/4 is a huge date. I would have expected him to start right away. I don't recall many other situations where assistants, let alone positions coaches were hired as a HC, yet we have to wait until Georgia plays in their championship game. I'm sure people will say he's doing both jobs, but this time period is vital that he is putting together a staff and working the freaking portal. I can't believe Wildhack would agree to this. Come at me all you want but it's BS we hired a HC who isn't 100% invested during a crucial time.

Fran is not going to leave his guys when they are playing Alabama in the SEC Championship. I wouldn’t expect him to. He’s all about loyalty. He knows what he’s doing.
You don't think Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart have it handled? He's not a coach there anymore he is the Head Football Coach at Syracuse University. Idgaf about Alabama they aren't on Syracuse football’s schedule. Image a serious football program hiring a position coach and doesn't have him start right away during a crucial period.

Technically, Georgia could hold him until Feb. 1. Assistant coaches salaries goes to Feb. 1. Be thankful he’s starting next Monday.

Yeah we need someone to take reigns ASAP. I'm fine with this weekend but beyond that he needs to be all in at Syracuse after imo.

I hear what you’re saying, and I get the frustration and even share in some of it. But I think the same reasons why he got the job is why he is sticking it through with his GA players.

It’s kind of like how you don’t want to hire someone if they’re not willing to give their current employer two weeks notice before coming on board. Apples and oranges, but I think it’s still the same principle.

It seems like this guy is really close with his players, probably one of the reasons why he’s so successful at recruiting. We just have to take the good with the “bad” in this particular circumstance.

Besides, I bet he’s doing both jobs and is probably just still there this week for moral support more than anything. I would imagine his phone is non stop right now talking to our current players etc.

He was one of our better recruiters in recent years. I hope we don’t get all NJ recruiters. Let’s stay on top of Maryland, Ohio, and of course, Florida.
He coached at IMG in FL

You’ve seen his contract and know the start date?

I have read your posts for years, solid. However my head is spinning a bit reading this. I am aware of the timelines by the way. Sometimes you have to meet in the middle, integrity always wins. Invested? That is why he is here. Appreciate Nunzio and CFB. Going to be ok.

I hear what you're saying, but he probably already has a list of guys in his head from who he has recruited, and who he has coached, and there are other coaches on the staff, but I imagine you're right, they're missing a week of recruiting here right before the portal opens. But if we still wind up in the low 40s in the national rankings of incoming classes, will it really matter? That's still better than we've done in a long time.

He can’t resign at any time? I think he should have resigned the minute it was announced he was our new head coach.

Coaching is a fraternity. You don't burn bridges if you were on staff at Georgia and won a national championship there. That's going to be one of your most important references in your whole career.

Nunzio is interviewing for other jobs he's not recruiting for Syracuse Football. We have a new coach who's going to be learning on the job as it is. If it was a HC, or even a coordinator, I could possibly understand, but not a position coach who has Muschamp and Smart himself coaching the secondary. I don't see many serious programs hiring a HC but have to wait for him to start so he can coach another teams game. I can care less what people think, it is what it is.

Well start dates are negotiated. And the number 1 job he has right now is assembling a staff and I have no doubt he’s been doing that. It doesn’t help him to wait.
12/4

It's a week. We'll live. It takes time to sort out a staff. He's been working to retain players, from what I've been reading in a couple places. He'll be in place the day the portal opens.
