Fran Brown Tells All

Also mentions a defensive tackle got poached and he got into an argument with the parents about it, but both him and parents came to an agreement that player should stay at cuse.
Who is Mensah?

The former Duke QB who had a contract through 2026 but entered the portal at the last minute to everyone believe go to the University of Miami for more money. There's a separate thread on this --

Does Fran mention it?

Maybe that is what richmondcuse was referring to when he said there was crazy stuff going on behind the scenes.

I wonder who that could be? Perry?

Yes

Wait? I thought our defensive tackles weren't good enough based on this board and you're trying to tell me someone was trying to poach one of them? Haha. Also, Fran mentioned this in reference to the Mensah situation. Attempting to poach a signed player at the 11th hour from another team out of desperation since you lost out on all the other targets that were actually in the portal is the lowest of the lows.

I don’t get the hype around Perry. At all
Scouts don't look at the effectiveness of the defense the player is playing in when making these decisions. They look beyond that when evaluating the value of that player.

When not hindered by injury and healthy, Perry played stout at the line not getting pushed back and on pass rush situations was able at times to collapse the pocket. Not all of his value is represented by sack stats.
And playing in an attacking defense rather the sitting and letting LB and DB make tackles , maybe we get some tackles in the backfield like other teams.

What can people expect differently out of you as a head coach?

Fran: “To have another quarterback ready”

Burst out laughing at that, but love that he owns it and he’s not shy to admit that!
Yes and I think he knew they had inherent problems that would hurt the 2025 season and that was well before even spring ball last year, Steve provided a bit of a cover for that, but the cover was blown once he got hurt. That is evident by the changes made behind the scenes beyond the QB room. Hopefully it all works out.

Agreed. That was a great interview. Good questions. Fran gave some detailed answers to let the fans in on what’s going on.

Just have to laugh off last year and hope it was an anomaly. Sounds like Fran learned a lot and I’m hopeful he’ll get us back on track.

Also interesting with Cook, Gill, and Smith ending up at Ole Miss and Fran bringing up his that he has a long term friendship with Pete Golding. Especially with Michael Smith, I wonder if Fran agreed to release him in order to stay in the south, but under the condition he goes to Ole Miss. I think Fran genuinely cares and if his players need to leave for various reasons and are on good personal terms that he prefers them to go to situations where he trusts they will be taken care of.

Fabulous interview. You can tell what he learned from last year; he even says it was a blessing in that it revealed some stuff that needed to change.

He is ruthless when it comes to staffing and the roster!

Some guys were clearly shown the door for academics.

Offseason advice from Saban and Coughlin, nice.

Odom is apparently early in the football learning curve, coming from a basketball background. And Angeli is the team leader, even while rehabbing. So many good tidbits.
