Fran Brown wants to make Syracuse football into a contender

I don't know how this will turn out, but I'm freakin' thrilled that SU is trying to be big time. The whole "we're a private northeast school, we should do cartwheels if we win 6 games" has been hella lame.

I mean, we can always lower our expectations. I know because the program has been one big exercise in that for 20+ years.

So glad we're taking a shot.

Yep. Go big or go...back to what we always do.

Good article
So happy to be back in upstate ny, work is doing great, wife and daughter coming next week, and couldn't be more high on the Orange. I don't expect miracles right out the gate (But will take it for sure!) but modestly I see us with 8/9 wins with the potential of 10 with some things going our way. But boy, what a story it would be to play Clemson or FSU in the ACC championship game and taking either down while next would be...Don't wake me up Orange Madmen, I like just where I am at the moment physically and mentally! Van

also "keep your friends close but your enemies closer..." he knows being nice to GS on the outside is helpful. But he wants to destroy them on the field and in recruiting.
I spend more time thinking about just this than I care to admit. Do we know Fran wants to destroy them any more than every other opponent ?
They are/ were a recruiting rival but does Fran want to hurt Rutgers or would he rather play nice with his old team?
I hope he hates them but I doubt he does

He’s super competitive. I’ve heard him talk about Penn State and Rutgers specifically. He obviously doesn’t hate them the way we do but he wants to win and has those programs circled. But he’s also not going to bash them or GS publicly. You get intel out of the coaching circle you’re close to as well.

That rests solely on AD John Wildhack

He knows what needs to be done to have Syracuse University at the big boy table when this round of conference realignment is settled.

He understands the value that athletics bring to a university.

Have to give big kudos to him on this

I think that's all we've wanted for a while now. If you're gonna go down at least go down swinging. No one ever accomplished something significant believing that they couldn't do it to begin with. There's no telling what being nationally relevant in football again would do for the university, the city, the alumni, etc.

GT is getting a ton of hype on here. Did they have a big portal haul or something?
Their offense was very good last year and most of them return. They will put up points on a lot of teams.

Their defense was awful. Not sure there is reason to expect it to improve a lot.

I think we are a more complete and balance team. But talk is cheap. They beat us last year at their place. Let's see if we can return the favor this year. If we do, it will give us a lot of credibility early. No question it is shaping up as one of the key games of the season.

If we want a good bowl, we really need to find a way to win this game.

Right. They added some solid transfers on defense but obviously their quality is TBD.

Hate, yes, respect mostly yes, I can do it with the lions, just can't quite get there with Rutgirls...nope can't do it.

If we win that Ga Tech game, we could be 5-0 going on the road to NC State. That might be our toughest game of the year.

We get Va. Tech and Miami later in the season at home - echoes of Big East days.

Pitt, BC and even UNLV are all on the road, and could be games where we could trip up.

But if we get by Georgia Tech, I believe we will be bowling. And if we can get by NC State, we may be going to a very good bowl. Those are my mile-markers for next season.
