Fran's Game 9 Press Conference | UNC

"We watch them and we see how week to week his team is getting better." Coach Brown on head coach Bill Belichick's UNC team.

"You guys can see him not running from adversity." Coach Brown on SU QB Rickie Collins.

Derek McDonald will apply for a medical and will try to play next year.

"He's getting better and better. I think Demetres is as good as advertised. He's doing well." Coach Brown on Demetres Samuel Jr.'s performance to this point in the season. Brown said he wants to see Demetres to play offense a little more. He'll also start as punt returner this week.

Devin Grant had a high ankle sprain, tried to play on it and got hurt again. Should be ready for UNC.

Brown said he had a meeting with the freshmen yesterday to talk about finishing the year strong for the future.

"We're playing better in the first quarter on defense." Coach Brown on where he has seen his team improve in recent weeks. Brown also complemented SU's special teams unit.

Fran Brown says that Rickie Collins has a "long way to go" to get to where Steve Angeli was at the beginning of the season. "We're going to compete at quarterback right now."

"I mean, it's hype. We're playing a football game against someone else. But we've just gotta win today." Coach Brown on the anticipation behind the Halloween night matchup against North Carolina.

"I really doesn't matter who we're about to go up and play against." Coach Brown on his personal excitement level to coach against Bill Belichick. Brown also explained how he considers it a privilege to know Coach Belichick and to soon coach against him.

"It sucks. It's just not the way things should be around here." Coach Brown on SU's four-game skid.

Lets Javon get the last question. "I told you we was cool".

"You gotta compete at Syracuse. I haven't told a single recruit that they were starting. I haven't told a player here that they were starting." Coach Brown on the idea of players hesitating to return to SU next season if they know they may drop on the depth chart.

"I talk to him every day. He's doing alright. I call him all the time." Coach Brown highlights how often he speaks with injured 'Cuse QB Steve Angeli.

Nobody is accusing him from running from adversity. More of an issue of throwing us into adversity.

You missed where he talked about Johntay cook and his plan to speak to him about coming back next year.

Fran also mentioned that he’s excited to see the incoming high school quarterbacks next year and how they’ll compete with the current guys in the room. One thing that stood out, though, is that he didn’t say anything about Rickie returning next season — he only mentioned Steve and the incoming high school players.

Except Carney. Screw him.

In all seriousness, if Carney said he wanted to redshirt, then I could see not wanting to play him because either (a) his wishes; or (b) who wants a guy that wants to redshirt when the team needs him to play? But why not come out and say "Look, the plan is for Carney to redshirt. He may see action in 1 or 2 more games, but that's it."

He could play both remaining home games and still preserve his red shirt

Regarding the last paragraph, I thought Fran said when he got injured that Steve was going to be around the program every day. Does anyone know what happened to that? I thought we would've at least seen him on the sidelines at home games. He was at the first one (Duke) but I don't know about the Pitt game.

He probably is around a lot but the recovery might mean sometimes it's not great adding discomfort.

You are correct

He was at the Pitt game. He did leave after the first Q probably to keep his Leg elevated.

Regarding Rickie and getting to where Steve has gotten, Fran said something to the effect of, "He has a long way to go and hopefully someday he gets there, if ever." Seemed pretty damning to me.
But then he continues to play him all the time. Oh the irony.

We are going backwards with these pressers. You can now hear no part of most of the questions being asked, just Fran’s answers. Just like it was in Dino days.
It must be different on the live stream, because this is the second time someone has mentioned this in the past 2 weeeks and I've watched the replay on YouTube and didn't have a problem at all.
