All Syracuse University students will be able to attend the Syracuse football game this Saturday against Maryland for free. Dunkin Donuts will also be handing out food for free before the game. Hopefully the free food will entice some students to get out of bed and to the game a little early for some free breakfast/lunch.

Looking forward to having a fun and loud atmosphere at the game this Saturday!

I like it, but quite honestly I say free tickets to SU students every home football game(Maybe except like FL. State and Louisville)?. Why not?? Creates a great atmosphere. Not like we are sold out every game(except maybe Fl. State and Lousiville), we have room for them!

Season tickets to all sports should be baked in to student activity fees. Jack those up another $120-200, who's going to know? More attendance from students, theoretically, and a steadier stream of income for the AD. Win-win.

Sounds like Rutgers

Agreed, make all sporting events free for students.

Haven't there been a couple of fairly recent articles saying that student attendance has dipped even at the FB powerhouse schools? I don't know about jacking up student activity fees - but free admissions to students when there are available seats seems like a no-brainer. You make some extra bucks from concessions - enhance the overall game atmosphere and maybe lock in some additional future alumni interested in attending games and/or donating to the school or AD.

This is a great decision by the Athletic Department. Hopefully the students will get in for free to every football game this season !!!!

Student activity fees are hidden costs in tuition bills. Kids aren't going to not come to Syracuse University because activity fees are bumped up by $200 per year.

Some late news: Syracuse will offer free student admission to the Maryland game on Saturday, SU Athletics confirms. Story running in AM.

Man, those students who paid have to sit next to the ones who got in for free? A premium fight is going to break out.

If you google you'll see a lot of articles about how student attendance at college football games is down.

I think if the school is making close to 60k off of each student free admission to football games should be included. Especially when you have a problem filling the seats.

Most of them would probably stay away anyway, but you'd probably sell more hot dogs.

Student Ticket Pricing
Football Season Tickets only: $99
Basketball Season Tickets only: $199
Basketball & Football Season Tickets: $219

Not sure I understand this pricing structure - could someone please fill me in?

Buy them both together you get a deal

I would think the paid ones will fill the lower seats, and the free ones the upper student sections? There has to be something to separate them. But this is a good idea overall. You need to bring your students out to the game any way that is possible. They are going to be the noisiest, and the best for the players.

Let's see. $55,000 room board and tuition. Oh no it is now $55,200. I'm going somewhere else. I don't think so.

It was being discussed while I was at SU. Not sure what happened to said discussions.

How about bumping activity fees for students that don't go to the games and/or lowering it for those that due? Let's reward the students that show up for sporting events.

Students barely realize there is an activity fee. Its an extra few hundred bucks in tuition.

Yeah - but if just a few make a stink and speak out in the DO it would become a "thing."

It used to be that way. All sports. FB and BB, you had to go to Archbold Gym with your activity card and pick up your ticket; all other sports you just showed the activity card for admittance. That all changed when they built the Dome. That's the first I can remember having to pay separately for student seats.

I think they really just need to find a way to bury this in the student fund and make all the games free. If they keep doing a push like this then fewer and fewer kids going to buy tickets, they'll just wait until they're free. Especially if it's general admission.

Take the ideal # of student attendance for each sport, multiply it by the respective student season ticket price for each sport, and then divide that total amount over the total # of students. Which means the fee would be much less than the $300 max for a student to buy season tix to each sport if each sport is purchased separately.

I can't imagine the school is going to see less enrollment because a $100 fee was baked into their 5 figure tuition.

one thing that making games free does is reward kids who only show up for some events.. there is something to be said for kids that show up for every game. perhaps showing up for the previous game gets you first dibs for seats in the next game..
