This dude looks like an NBA player out there. He reminds me of Giannis, but a little shorter. He obviously would have erased 2 or 3 of the losses had he not been out, making us a minimum bubble team. The only thing holding this team back is Red's rotations. If he can learn to keep the hot hand on the court and learn to bench JJ/George when they're stinking up the joint, this team can play with anybody (except ISU 🤪). The more Donnie and the team build chemistry, the more they become a dangerous opponent for anybody. San Dimas high school football rules!

Some unknown analyst yesterday mentioned Donnie as someone who's quickly climbing up the draft boards and is likely to end up a first round pick. They mentioned his ability to score at all three levels and his athleticism and ball handling for a kid 6 foot 10. Whoever the guy was, he was very very high on Donnie. Don’t ask who it was cause I don’t know the guy. I listen to 8-9 different sports radio talk shows and outside the well known ones, they’re all the same.

"Reminds" is the keyword here bud, not "as good as". Who does he remind you of in terms of style of play... Joy Behar?
I’m very intrigued by it.

Giannis is like the most physical player in the league that gets downhill extremely quickly and uses that strength and long stride to finish in the paint. And he’s an underrated passer. One of the most unique players in NBA history to be straight up.

However, his well documented issues are actually shooting the ball. He’s actually shooting 3s substantially better this year which I didn’t realize until now (very low volume as he should), and his FT % is not critically bad (65% this year at a very high volume).

I think Donnie’s strength is his shooting touch and ability to score from everywhere. People don’t like that he settles sometimes but he’s got great form and follow through which shows on this FTs and when he shoots over people when posting up, which he can do because his height/length. The cross court pass turnovers have to be cleaned up. Very serviceable dribbler but I wouldn’t call him a great ball handler… yet.

I’d say the best similarity to Giannis is ability to draw fouls working inside. And it seems he’s really turned up his competitive side/motor since returning.

As for another player comparison, I’d have to think about it. He’s surely our best player though and has been for 2 years, that’s a fact.

I really like that he seems to have abandoned that fadeaway and is using his size and strength to go up strong.

We’re not going to find any good 1:1 comparisons; nothing in particular sticks out he’s just really well rounded and good at everything. If you put all the lottery picks from the past decade into an AI and told it to generate a player it would make something like Donnie.

Also credit to Red for letting him play his natural position. He’s bigger than Kyle and I feel like Boeheim would’ve made him a center, but he’s a 4. An NBA 4.

clearly shows he is working hard. went from a 33 percent 3 point shooter a year ago to 37 percent this year so far. if he can get to the 40's he will be a first round draft pick. i remember watching the capel brothers shaking their head in disbelief but you can see how big of an improvement he has made there.

Which draft guy are you referring to?

im also not sure it was a "draft guy" per se.

Donnie still not showing up in Tankathon, but I expect that to change soon. I would love the Knicks to grab him at 25. I also dont expect Kyle to get drafted, but he reminds me of Simms who contributed to the Knicks for a couple of years before getting traded. I would expect him to get a two way with somebody.

Would you believe the old draft guy's not a draft guy trick.

I saw it, that's why I had to ask.

I’d caution reading too much into his 3 point %; he’s 11-29. If he made an extra one he’d be at 41% and if he missed an extra one he’d be at 34%, so pretty wide error bars.

He is career 80% from the like though; and the shot looks pretty solid, so being a high 30s shooter from 3 doesn’t seem outrageous

Last year he looked like he accidentally just talented his way in to double doubles.

This season it's clear he gets it (that steal late when he just got the ball from a guy that wasn't really paying attention, you could see Freeman read the situation all the way and just decided to take the possession away from FSU) and it's showing up in the stats. Seems to be getting 20 points pretty quietly and effortlessly.
