The thing a lot of folks are glossing over is that they're thinking program first.

The current setup is not program-centric. It's player-centric. Ergo, all programs are feeder type programs in some form or another if the player chooses. The combo of NIL and the immediate eligibility transfer make it so.

Some of you can't handle that we don't win as much as we used to and this season we're losing a lot more than we used to. It's allowing loser mentality to infect your thinking. I'm not saying to ignore reality. But I am saying that way too many are being far too deterministic in these conversations. The only actual instance of our program serving as a "feeder" is Maliq going to Duke.

That's it. Everything else is speculation. Maybe more of our fans should grow a set/a lady set/a non-binary set and adapt. There were still be players, games will still be played. In the player-centric world it's incumbent on programs to understand how they offer value.

You and I might disagree about some other things, but this is a very insightful post.

I’ll add… credit Scheyer for handling the transition from K about as well as humanly possible. He kept the program relevant in its first couple years post-legend. Won a lot of games, got decent tourney seeds. And most critically, that kept the brand strong and relevant.

Now here we are in year 3 and he’s luring the top HS recruit in the country and has his pick of dozens of high impact portal players.

Granted, he didn’t have to rebuild, just maintain. But that’s also support for the concept that legends should leave when things are good. Not in their 8th year of decline.

When you have the support and money to buy all your first choices of players you want it makes it easier to stay on top and impactful. That speaks more of the Duke system then it does Scheyer imo. Its not like he’s out begging for money like they pretty much do at Syracuse.

I have a theory that freshmen recruits are becoming fools' gold. You pay for them to make their freshmen mistakes with you, they aren't good enough to win it all because they are still freshmen, then they leave after one year to chase the league or to a bigger bag somewhere else.

Nailed it. Right now there's alot of headscratching going on at Rutgers. They got 2 top 5 guys to get to 86 in the NET.

Actually, this season is more of the same...headed for double digit losses consecutively now for several straight years and counting. So, we are plenty used to it.

As far as SU being a "feeder" program and Maliq going to Duke being the only instance, yes, to date, that is the only true example. I guess, with the Freeman rumor out there, for a lot of folks, this will be more of norm moving forward versus an outlier or one off. Especially, when considering the realism of SU currently being insufficient in NIL $$$, along with the likelihood that this drawback will, in all probability, remain in the foreseeable future. Therefore, SU being unable to compete at the high level it had for years, along with its fans being accustomed to as well.

Speculation? Well, of course. Last I checked, this was an internet sports forum, you know, one where speculation makes up a plethora of the day in and day out threads and conversations.

And, as for as far as our fans "growing a set" and being able to "adapt," etc. I'd say the fans, non binary and all, have already begun to do this, proven by the actual fannies in the Dome for these past few game, etc. I wonder how the SU powers that be feel about this, let's just say, comprehensive, 'adapting,' et al? I'd say good luck to them with their future 'value' campaigning attempts in this new player-centric world.

Ive watched Red coach, all of King Midas’ gold is not getting us into the tournament. That is unacceptable for this program and if anyone on the hill disagrees, I’d argue they’re not qualified to be a decision maker. We’re a program that should be in the tournament most if not all years.

I work for a living and have priorities above a bad syracuse basketball program for a school that has how big of an endowment? The only act in town can turn to no act in town before I accept blame for professionals paid millions a year to do a bad job.

Harsh but its the truth. I believe in Fran’s plan and message, and have happily contributed to football since the month he was hired.

No I listened to Fran speak and knew we had the right guy. Additionally - he surrounded himself with quality assistants.

The Mets just spent $700 million on a free agent and it wasn’t their only signing. Alonso isn’t getting signed because no team wants to give an aging 1b with average or less defense a long term big money deal. Same with Bergman.

More money doesn’t solve the problem. It’s an easy answer for people to give but it’s an excuse not a solution. Ultimately a team, regardless of the sport or even industry, still needs to think creatively and come up with ways to solve their issue. If SU can’t compete with peer schools because they don’t have $5-7m for NIL then shut it down. It’s a waste of money.

If any of my managers came to me and said that they can’t do something because they need double the budget, I’d ask them what else have they tried.

Alonso / Bregman aren't getting signed because Scott Boras put an unrealistic price tag on their heads. That those two aren't going to be one hat guys is a shame. In this world there are unsophisticated versions of him in the ears of these kids. Anyway I hope college hoops doesn't have anything resembling the economics of baseball.

More money solves a lot of problems in this NIL world, saying otherwise is whistling past the graveyard. JB won more when he had better players, and now you buy those guys.
