FSU Post Game

lot of incredible stats from this game:

SU shot 60% for the game...and needed all 60

shot 68% in the 2nd half! insane efficiency

FSU had 27 foul shots and Su only got 15 (I felt the reffing esp clarence armstrong was highly sus)...considering the spread was roughly 8.5 and SU only won by 8 ...its more than a little fishy

betsey was 6-8 from 3 - huge contribution...I really hope he can continue to get a good amount of shots per game bc he is locked in. credit to red for recognizing that and keeping him in most of the game

george with 13 assists and 4 TOs - whole team really needs to watch the careless passes and turnovers...14 TOs total for the team - clean that up and the efficiency can even get better from here
Agree...
But the stats also reveal some weaknesses.
Other than Betsey the 3 point shooting was poor.
Other than Freeman the foul shooting was poor (as usual).
And the Orange gave up way too many offensive rebounds (15).

Funny that Nait George had so many assists...yet his great total wasn't a focus of conversation.

VT and Miami are in the front end of the middle pack this year. Especially Miami could be in the top five.
That being said, I am happy we are 4-1 on the next five games. Allow one loss to VT, Miami or NC State in the early ACC season. I think we can win easily against VT. Both Miami and NC State games are 50/50. Both have computer ranking higher than us but computers don't know us.

It’s not all that suspicious the line was tight, Syracuse played matador defense for most the night

I love Sadiq's aggressiveness last night. He took a miserable jumper early in the game, rightfully sat awhile, and then was amazing attacking the basket. He just needs to shut his mouth when he disagrees with a ref's call. He killed us in the Hofstra game, but fortunately it didn't matter last night. I thought the ref was a bit aggressive with that T, but don't even give the official the opportunity to call it.

I may be in the minority, but I thought it was the right play. The paint was clogged and we tend to force the lob instead of
kicking it out leading to unforced turnovers.
Not from where I sat. He went to the 3 because he got too close to DF

yeah well the team playing matador defense shot 11 less free throws

fsu was very physical i can think of more than a couple times they hit SU players hard on shots but nothing was called

and SU was the home team too

That tends to happen, if you let a guy bye you then you tend to foul as a last resort. Watching the game I didn’t see many iffy no calls. The fouls were 16-17 and Syracuse just didn’t draw shooting fouls because they settled for floaters and short range jump shots. They made them but those aren’t likely to draw fouls

Miami is 32 in the NET. If we win, even at home, that will be on the cusp of a Q1 win.

It depends how their season goes, right? They haven't played anyone of note yet, and the good teams they played, they lost. IT maybe a Q1 win now but not by the ends of the season. We will see

I have said number of times that their Clemson game next is big.

For NCAA tournament chances it is almost a must win unless we plan on beating Duke in Duke.

Q2 would still be great!

kiyan got some iffy calls to his benefit on drives

but donnie and jj both (and maybe a few other guys) got hacked with a lot of contact on a few plays without a whistle

and there were a few plays where SU was on defense and barely made any contact that put FSU on the line

just enough to keep the game close imo

overall, there were bad calls both ways but i feel like fsu got away with more contact and SU was called for very minimal contact

you can say but the fouls were 16-17 so its fair...but actually i think fsu was making a lot more contact throughout the game so it shouldnt have been even

this idea that any time the total foul counts for both teams are even means it was good reffing is not true

the team that isnt making much contact shouldnt have the same number of fouls as the team that is making a lot of contact

I mean you’re free to live in conspiracy land if you’d like, but it doesn’t make any sense. Syracuse played garbage defense and allowed an inferior team to stay in the game. It’s not the refs fault, it’s their own fault

Just based on lip reading (and not knowing exactly what the no-no words on the site are), I'm pretty confident that he said, "That's Pho-King bullspit." In regards to the fould he got called for.
Ha ha ha! Tsk. Silly rabbit.

Ups and downs with him
Again, didn’t watch the game. 7-10? It seems over the season he is not a gunnner.

I assume from the box score Freeman wreaked havoc. If JJ plays even half as well (again going by box score, didn’t watch game) and the rest of the team is healthy you guys are in the tournament.

We also got the version of FSU that took Duke to the wire…

He can’t really dribble, isn’t really athletic, and suspect defensively. He’s really a specialist.
I think Betsey is better off the dribble than you think, there's just a lot of Ball dominant players on this team, so he doesn't need to, or have the opportunity to, dribble drive very often.

The biggest similarity to Chris Bell is his lack of rebounding. Betsey has been better than Bell most of the season, but his most recent game was a perfect example of Chris Bell type play. Chris Bell has a career 5.4% rebound percentage, Betsey this year is at 8.7%. but you would like to see a guy that's 6'8 225lb over 10%. At least...

defensively half court chris bell was lazy and i was therefore never a fan . but allow me to give one little shout out to chris ucanringmy bell . the dude could block shots. especially on some easy breakaways from behind. had 43 blocks here and 12 so far this season at cal. betsey has 5 to date and just 1 last 5 games. i'd like to see betsey getting some minutes at the 2 . especially when we go zone. gives us better size , defense and shooting out top .
