First, 7 wins over 2 seasons. Scott Shafer is no doubt a great man and person. I ridiculed him for the way he handled several "situations" over the last 2 seasons, namely the McDonald situation (still think he should have fired his a$$ on the spot after the outburst, but I digress). However, I applaud him for the way he handled his exit.
Second, I want to applaud Coyle for handling the situation in the way he did. He made up his mind before the season was over. He could have waited until after the BC game to notify Shafer and nobody would have thought less of him. Instead he chose to notify Shafer before the game and that somehow was leaked. While some may disagree with the firing, but the decision isn't ours. The way it all transpired, I felt like I had an opportunity to really appreciate Shafer, one last time for the person he was while the head coach at SU, and to get some closure.
Third, I want to thank the "Insiders" on this board. The last few days have been a roller coaster of emotions regarding the coaching carousel for SU. Eddie O, Frost, Ash, Babers, etc... I wish the new HC would be hired as of now; wish the new HC is an offensive guy; wish SU made a big boy offer to someone. Who knows, maybe all that has happened?! Either way, several of the "Insiders" on this board have been very forthcoming with what little information they have, whether right, wrong, or trolling. I haven't seen this many of you all this active in a long time it seems.
Last, I wanted to thank the Mods but I haven't seen this board this frantic in a long time. The Mods have been very involved (except cto who is loving up the bball board). They have kept the board clean. And most of all, well.. they've been less pompous than usual throughout the process. Bravo.
Cheers to everyone who is seems to have renewed spirit around here. I can definitely assert that I'm pro SU football no matter how the next week transpires.
