Just out of SU football practice. There was a noticeable absence today. Quinta Funderburke was not in uniform.

Also, Rob Trudo had to sit out today. It didn't appear to be serious. He was bouncing around practice with the O-Line and joking around.

Scott Shafer is speaking at 11:45. We should more then about Funderburke and Trudo. @MinkNate will have a post shortly as well.

I don't get the warm-n-fuzzies on this one...

What are we thinking academics? Or the team rules thing?

Unless he was taking some mandated make-up work over the summer, I don't think it could be academics.

Maybe he was pissed at being 3rd string at the fanfest.

Shafer would not offer specifics on injuries to Trudo and Kirkland. Said nothing major. Also would not say why Funderburk was absent.

Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer declined to say why Quinta Funderburke was absent from practice. Hmmm...

Also did not add info on injuries to Rob Trudo and Josh Kirkland. Not sure on Trudo, but from what I saw Kirkland tweaked a hammy last wk

Kid has 3 years of eligibility left it would be a shame if this is something serious. Also, the BTN production trucks won't have to worry about confusing Wayne Morgan and Quinta Funderburke because both wear number two.

Axe is now saying it's injury related for Funderburk. Wonder if this story is being written as it it unfolds.

Here's hoping its a case of a cigar being a cigar with a minor injury.

Not great news either way, there has been rumblings since he got here that his heart isn't into football anymore. Hope everything works out.

To follow up on an earlier tweet, it looks like Quinta Funderburke's absence from practice is injury-related. We will have a post up shortly.

Relatively speaking, this sounds like "good" news.

Yeah, glad it's not other "stuff." Hope it's a minor injury, but SS decining to say what it is makes me a little concerned.

Three other players were not at practice at all Monday. Wide receiver Quinta Funderburk, defensive lineman Tyler Marona and defensive back Josh Mims were all absent.

When asked about those players in his press conference following practice, Shafer avoided specifics.

"Nothing major," Shafer said. "We've got a couple upper-body, a couple lower-body (injuries). ... Those kids are good. They'll be back when the time is right. Nothing major. No surgeries or nothing like that. I feel good about them."

A reporter followed up by asking if that statement also referred to Funderburk and Marona, the two most high-profile names not present at practice, and Shafer confirmed that it did.

WHEW. Im still holding out hope for Quinta.

there is no rush for players a little banged up to practice... they can miss a couple of days to rest... we just want as healthy a team as possible going into penn st... Also seems liek other schools def suffering from their share of injuries... happens EVERYWHERE... BYU just lost both starting CBs...

Who knew that Shafer had been brainwashed by evil Marrone. Lower body, upper body, what's the matter with him, doesn't he know that the fans are entitled to know specifics.

Shafer even repeated that discussing specifics helps "the enemy".

I seem to recall players dropping like flies in marrone's first fall camp. Not a good sitation given that he was starting from a thin roster. You are right,it happens to every team. That's why depth is so key.
