FUTURE DEPTH

I would like to see us bring in a player that fits this criteria bye way of a JUCO or a portal transfer I no that Harper and Rondi return at that position and a couple of true freshman will fight for some PT , and I really do not expect Bear or Black to return for a sixth year via covid exemption I hope the coaches are really looking at this as an option.

Bear will be a pro, but black as a de converted to DT, should return as he isn't a pro prospect.

If slayton is having a tough time sticking Im the league, what makes you think bear is a pro?

Not sure but think the 2 have different skill sets with bear being more athletic. Some guys just adjust to the pro game speed better and stick.

I mean, I hope so. He’s looked just ok so far. He needs to be a lot better for the run D to improve.

Yes, agree, you nailed it. Just think he is still kinda finding his way after missing a whole year.

One more year will help Bear. Hes not an RB. Another year is too his advantage.

Heck yeah, I hope I am wrong and he stays too. That will be huge for our D as a whole. Again, he deserves to play on front of fans and feel that dome juice after all he has been through.

Love the depth at LB and DB. Scared of the depth (or lack thereof) at QB and OL. Unless our starting DL come back, particularly Mckinley in the middle, really need to hit on some of the DL in this next class.
Albeit that's my son. I really wish that he played on the OL also at Syracuse. He was actually recruited by my Godbrother the assistant HC at Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas to play on the OL because Coach Scott knows that he can play all the OL positions, but he stayed at Ft. Lauderdale Dillard because he wanted to play DL in College, and his position coach at Dillard played DL in the NFL as well as ( the Head Coach, and the RB coach Lorenzo White, and the WR coach Issac Bruce and a few more ex NFL dudes.) I told him It would increase his Draft stock if he played both, but like I said throughout my previous post;...I don't make suggestions because college coaches can be petty - so if they figure it out fine. If not of well...

Who, bear? Why not? The transitive property doesn't work with teams week to week and certainly doesn't work with individual players. I loved slayton, but, bear is more athletic and might be a better pro fit.

Let me first say, I hope he does! But being honest, we as fans have a tendency to over rate our players. I think he is a good college player, nothing exceptional. I believe he was not a regular (projected) starter until last year (his Sr year) If you're unable to crack the starting lineup at Syracuse prior to that, the probability you play in the NFL is slim. **Edit - he started regularly his Jr year.

Somewhat related- I think our secondary is great and we likely have 3 guys (Cisco, Trill & Iffy) who play in some capacity at the next level. But I see posts here that have all 3 leaving early and going top 3 rounds. Doesn't it seem a little unrealistic that we have 3 of the top 100 NFL picks next season?

Another couple examples would be Steve Ishmael and AET. I thought they were surefire NFL players. I was wrong. It just goes to show how difficult it is to make it and stick in the NFL.

I hope we churn out NFL players every year, but we have produced very limited pros over the last decade, punters excluded. I find it hard to believe we have 4 starters on defense who will get drafted in 2021, and from this thread and others it seems like some posters really believe we will.

I am right with you on your take and assessment. I have argued that yes, we all promote our guys as higher in draft potential bc we watch and love them. As good as our secondary is, Cisco has holes in his game like run support and coverage angles. He gets beat alot. Trill, I believe is our best prospect, and then iffy. We can hope for rounds 3-5 and then might play their way into better. Bear, has the frame and burst to be really good. Still think he is working his way back from the injury but simply saying he can't make it bc slayton didn't doesn't work. It's such a small margin in what makes a pro vs the guys that dont on the defensive side. Cisco has ridden his INTs. Into national prominence. Yes, he is skilled and made those plays, but turnovers are also a bit opportunistic too.

Lastly, Ishmael was my favorite player in the last 20 years and if he was .2 sec faster he would have been a top 3 rd pick. He had the size, hands, route running, etc...he had it all...

I think Cisco has his issues too, but I'd be awfully surprised if he didn't go top 3 rounds. I agree that Trill has the best pro potential, but I have no idea where he'll land. I'm not convinced he's leaving after this season and think another year could help him play his way up draft boards.

Iffy has been excellent. I thought Chris Fredrick was very good and would be in the NFL, but he isn't. Iffy has better measurables and is a better player. I think he'll make it.

Kendall Coleman is another guy I was convinced would make it. Just goes to show how hard it is!

So well said, I was all in on frederick too. Iffy, like you said, has those sexy measurables. I hope Cisco does go top 3 rds.

I feel this will finally be the last season that lack of depth will be an issue , we will have a strong nucleus of returning players for next year with a promising recruiting class for 2021 that still has a very good chance to get even better , I am tired of having a few injured players every year that puts us in a position to lose games due to lack of depth I remember when coach ( MAC ) turned our program around we were a solid 2 deep at every position I hope we can be in this position in the very near future , winning sets the tone along with putting some of our players in the NFL our facilities are as good as they have ever been and Dino is a very good mentor who really cares about his player and their academics , I think the future looks bright ( orange ) of course.

I am hoping that too but the more games I watch, there is still a glaring weakness at the skill positions. The more cfg we watch, team after team has big and skilled pass catchers all over the field. ISU, for instance has an average pass catcher starting of 6'4". Iowa st... including 6'5" TEs. I know Campbell is a stud young coach, but we are supposed to have that too. Is ISU such a better destination? Even north texas has wr athletes with size and speed. We are indeed behind the curve. We get on TD, but TH at 6'2, 160# is his best option.

I understand what your saying a lot of times we do not pass the look test so to speak but I feel much more confident with the staff we have right now for recruiting the more prototype players who have offers from better programs, this has been a longer process than we were hoping for but some of our former assistant coaches just didn't have the credentials to lure better recruits for our program, the class of 2021 looks to be a very good indicator that the tide is turning and I hope the last few scholarships for that class really has an impact for the future.
