No, not really, it is not any better. Syracuse has a ton of rebuilding to do to both its basketball team and its reputation. The ACC was the number 1 League some years ago but the last several it is lucky if it is considered in the top 5.
Syracuse over the past 10 years have been lucky to be considered in the top half of the ACC.
If Syracuse has a good team this year, it will be just the first step in the new world caused by the transfer portal. Last year, we kept 2 players/contributors from the previous year’s team. This year, we will be fortunate to keep 2, not guaranteed. Next year, we may go through the same transition as these years. It is hard to survive yet alone thrive in this environment.
Getting good players and developing them might be a step to develop a culture where the university becomes a recognizable force in college basketball. You don’t snap your fingers and you are back in the upper hierarchy.
Come out of the clouds, Buddy. We have a new coach with a big job ahead of him that includes first building a competitive team and then rebuilding a culture that will fuel a winning atmosphere. Then, having continual success where players/recruits/transfers will want to come to Syracuse to play at a highly competitive level.
I hope that GMAC is up to the task and is successful in re-establishing the desired reputation. We are at the start of the process.
