You call it sh***tting on him, I call it having an opinion. Just one you don’t like. These dudes are getting paid. We don’t have to handle them with kid gloves anymore.

All judgements and opinion won’t matter at this point anyway. If Red can put this all together and get us to the tourney nobody will remember what we thought about the Bryce Zephyr signing.
I have no idea if this kid can play at a P4 level.

But there's a way to express your opinion without overtly demeaning the kid.

My opinion.

You used to be able to tell who was a power conference player because a power conference team signed you. When we used to recruit well, you'd assume every player on our roster was better than those in lower conferences. Now you have no idea. Every school is scouring the 300+ D1 teams to find 12 guys who can play. Maybe Bryce's best basketball is ahead of him. Welcome to the team.

Where are you coming up with that assumption?

You telling me Sonny Spera would play circles around this guy?

Also, it's my hope that Bryce will have an official fan club in the stands with a fan club sign, as well...

I’m sure people will disagree with me but I’d rather have a guard that’s 6’4, 210. Physical and high energy off the bench than Kyle Cuffe. This kid knows he’s going to get spot minutes. He’s knows his role already.

You have George ans Straling starting. And he knows he’s competing for minutes off the bench with Anthony and Fennell. That’s a good group of guards that are all big dudes and physical. Y’all should be happy with this pick up. We need bodies. We aren’t asking this kid to start or be the focal point of our offense. Hell we aren’t asking this kid to play 10 minutes a game lol. We are asking this kid to be our 4th-5th guard on the team. I hope y’all weren’t expecting some dude averaging 12 ppg to come here and expect to be our 5th guard. This is a good get for someone who is going to be the 4th-5th guard on the team.

Close out with Deng. Then add maybe one more young transfer that can play the 4 and 5. That will have a couple years to play here and develop and I’ll like this team
And hopefully this kid has a great attitude and understands that if he knocks it out of the park in practice, then there could be a path to playing time.

I think most of the team will need to earn their PT. Even JJ. We know what he is capable of doing, but does that mean he deserves 28+ or 30+ minutes if bad JJ is suiting up.

...and Kline...and any chance of making the NCAAT next season. All because the program signed Bryce Zephir to be, at best, the 11th option off the bench.

Eat your hearts out ACC. This is what having a GM will do for ya. Turning over rocks and finding gems like this. Cancel your plans for next March guys.

My best man has lived in Bosman for the last twenty years. He and family love it there. They go to Montana State hockey games not basketball so I don’t have a scouting report on Mr Zephir.

Imagine getting chastised for having a different opinion.

I guess we should just blindly accept whatever Kline and Red do because they know better than us.

You know it’s perfectly ok for you to be happy with a decision they make. It’s also perfectly ok for someone else to not like a certain decision and question it.
Of course it is. But this board is ridiculous. This kid is a practice player. He is not going to play ahead of JJ, George or Fennell. Why are people upset about this addition? Not going to play ahead of Anthony either. So what exactly is the objection?

100%. We aren’t asking this kid to run our offense or start. Kid will get like 5-10 minutes if we NEED him too. He’s the damn 4th-5th guard on the team.

Would you rather have 6’4 210, athletic and tough go up against your starting guards in practice or 5’10, 190, slow and short guards like Carlos and Cuffe. Who do you think is making Starling, George, Fennell and Anthony better?

Hint it’s no one on the team that had the worst record in Syracuse basketball history with the last 55 years.

Every player on the roster is competing for starting positions. What did we say about Lucas Taylor last year? [Did he really start 22 games?!]
• 'guard depth'
• '12th man'
• 'practice body'
• 'If he never plays a minute... good for practice...'
• 'will help in practice, possible scoring spark off the bench'
• 'Even as a depth piece, I don't think he's going to add much.'

Stuff happens. Kline is a genious, remember?

Cuffe replacement and experience at pg

This thread has had few redeeming qualities given that some posters can't seem to figure out why this kid was brought in when it should be painfully obvious. That said, the highlight package that Orangefizz posted above shows a player who might be a little better than one might expect. The video also highlights his weaknesses and leads one to think he might give you a couple of serviceable minutes in a pinch if he is coached to play only to his strengths.

This is a good pick up. Even if he doesn’t get on the court unless garbage time, he will be a good practice body/opponent simulation, and should be more competitive than a walk on. Every team needs a few Chaz Owen’s type.

We had JJ, Freeman, Chance and our backup center unable to practice or play during a good part of the year.
So we were using non scholarship Walkons to practice. It's hard to run a good practice or teach that way.
Plus you can't push too hard or take the chance of more injuries.

Not sure I'll ever recover from this
