What's his court IQ, can he dribble and play man defense. That's all that matters.

Amazing how terrible some people are on here. The kid earned a scholarship to play division 1 basketball which the majority of this board has never sniffed playing division 1 anything and yet you find a way to trash the kid and the program for bringing him in? How about be happy for the kid because he obviously brings a lot to the table for him to have an offer to come here. Not everything is about stats always. And it’s not like this has been a national championship program the last 10 years. Imagine if this kid saw some of these posts. End of rant

Imagine getting chastised for having a different opinion.

I guess we should just blindly accept whatever Kline and Red do because they know better than us.

You know it’s perfectly ok for you to be happy with a decision they make. It’s also perfectly ok for someone else to not like a certain decision and question it.

I’m generally curious what the complaints are about. So far they all are drenched in assumptions when a few folks have already said Deng or someone else like him is the last major target and we would fill out the roster with lower level guys not expected to contribute.

I'm with you, but to tell the truth, now that these kids are being paid, it opens up a different way of thinking.

That said, let's let these kids suit up first, before people with their preconceived opinions, can make educated comments on their performances.

Then, if the kid can't play defense or doesn't hustle or can't shoot, then it's different.

But, 99.9% of the time, these kids and/or their families will find this message board. Hopefully, once they find it, they never come back. Because, it can be cruel. Truth or not.

But, we should be happy for the kids who want to suit up in Orange and hopefully be a part of something special.

These coaches are working hard. How many other schools have signed this many portal kids so far. Thank you coaches.

if he’s just another practice body how is it bad?
Under the best of circumstances, you need 10 players to scrimmage. But we all know things happen during a long season. Players drop out, flunk out, freak out, get suspended, go into the portal mid semester, get hurt, get sick, etc.

We would all like to have a roster of 15 4 star players but in this day, it isn’t going to happen. Good players want to play right away.

The smart move is to find serviceable players who can contribute during practice, who know their role and are okay doing it.

Just as an aside though, I read this guy shot 39% and 50% from 3 the seasons before last, when he shot 29%. No idea what happened with him but it is possible he is going to be a far better shooter than we might think.

Filling out a roster these days means taking a player or two like this guy. His presence isn’t going to scare anyone else from committing and takes us a step closer to a complete roster.

Imagine sh***tting on a kid you know next to nothing about. And passive-aggressively, at that.

Oh wait, I don't have to imagine.

Sure. And it's ok to think that opinion is misguided. If anyone thinks we were going to get anyone who is any sort of contributor for the 12th scholarship on the roster then idk what world anyone's living in. Duke's 12th guy is someone named Neal Begovich who came from Stanford and played 36 games his entire career.

You either only want elite players or your filling out the 12th spot and on with roster fillers.

BUT HE SAID LIFE CHANGING OFFER

He really looks like an elite walk on from those numbers - if we used no resources and those are the expectations than I don’t see any harm

You call it sh***tting on him, I call it having an opinion. Just one you don’t like. These dudes are getting paid. We don’t have to handle them with kid gloves anymore.

All judgements and opinion won’t matter at this point anyway. If Red can put this all together and get us to the tourney nobody will remember what we thought about the Bryce Zephyr signing.

People complain when Dasher says we probably won't be able to use all of our scholarships and then complain when we get a guy that's clearly depth lol, exactly the type you'd be getting with those scholarships we were afraid would go unused.
This is why I made that "we have a lot of scholarships" thread to acknowledge that with as much room on the roster we have we were probably going to see some pickups that seem like reaches and weird flyers, but that's ok.

ah good another clowns-out-in-force thread

My opinion is that you are insufferable. But it's just my opinion.

A voice of reason, we had at least 3 players last season who at various times couldn't play . Actually 4 because Chance was always a non practice player.

Maybe the "life changing offer" has to do with the teams NIL revenue split from the NIL tournament they will be playing in next season
And if you’re poor (I don’t know if Zephir is), life changing money can mean anything or even just a chance to get a life changing free education at a good university.

Anyone know how we got connected with this kid? It just seems so incredibly random that we went across the country to find the 12th guy on the depth chart. Wondering what the connection is.

Thanks ol’ Shap. You are entitled to that opinion. Wished I was as calm, cool, and collected as you.

I’m sure people will disagree with me but I’d rather have a guard that’s 6’4, 210. Physical and high energy off the bench than Kyle Cuffe. This kid knows he’s going to get spot minutes. He’s knows his role already.

You have George ans Straling starting. And he knows he’s competing for minutes off the bench with Anthony and Fennell. That’s a good group of guards that are all big dudes and physical. Y’all should be happy with this pick up. We need bodies. We aren’t asking this kid to start or be the focal point of our offense. Hell we aren’t asking this kid to play 10 minutes a game lol. We are asking this kid to be our 4th-5th guard on the team. I hope y’all weren’t expecting some dude averaging 12 ppg to come here and expect to be our 5th guard. This is a good get for someone who is going to be the 4th-5th guard on the team.

Close out with Deng. Then add maybe one more young transfer that can play the 4 and 5. That will have a couple years to play here and develop and I’ll like this team

I was always expecting we'd get a couple players like this to fill out the practice squad.

I don't understand what the complaints are about right now.

If we're forced to play him significant minutes during the season, then let's hear it...
