At this point he knows what he is. He's played community college and JUCO ball. Not a lot of point in dropping down a level from where he is.

Maybe he wants a year at Newhouse or Maxwell costs very little and can play the role of 12 th to 15th man. Right now he is 11th man.
Watching the highlights, he looks like an athletic, lefty, 6'4"guard. I understand his defensive metrics are not good. But, as a practice player with the potential to contribute, so long as he is not an NIL drain, I think he is a net positive. What I REALLY want is defensive DAWGS that will raise the intensity of the entire roster. I don't think he fits that bill, but it's tough to fill spots 12-15. I hope this dude comes in and decides to challenge all the guards on the roster by competing at 100% in practice. If I were Red, I would make that his challenge. Even though his forte is not defense, I would tell him to study Houston or a comparable defense and tell him to bring that starting with summer workouts. If that doesn't raise the games of others, it will buy him minutes. We need dawgs, this dude's history does not who that ability, but he is big enough and athletic enough to be a dawg. I don't know if our coaching staff can teach it, but that would be my challenge to this particular player and all of our players.
Everybody is getting more than $0, but I understand and agree with your point. I believe he is a 2 year player, so I would inspire him by telling him that if he can come in and push the starters to be better, then he is up for a raise.
