Ga Tech fires Josh Pastner / hiring Damon Stoudamire

Easy - you expense it because the credit card bill is from Alluvia. A “steak house”.
Ironic then that NCR - with big operations (prvisoiy) in Brazil (São Paulo and Manaus) is now HQ right across the street….

Issue was more the amount than the expense category/business name.

GaTech is one of those schools where I can't figure out why they're not demonstrably better, other than always hiring dumb coaches.

ACC member on a pretty campus in ATLANTA, which is one of the more desirable cities in the country. Seems like they have nice facilities too.

Someone should be able to build a program there, but its been almost 20 years since they were any good.
Maybe the freshman calculus requirement.

I was thinking more bad luck from a tiki idol. At least no tarantula this time.
I always thought he looked like this guy.

They may take academics a little more seriously than other ACC schools.
A colleague of mine’s son played there (transfered to a smaller school since). The academics are legit. Can’t fake a lot of that. Lots of support, of course, but the school is definitely serious about it (relatively speaking).

How many HCs leave to be assistants?
Dave Odom resigned as HC at East Carolina to become an assistant at Virginia. More relevant to Pastnor's situation, Danny Manning is now an assistant at Louisville, and Dino Gaudio was the head coach at Wake Forest before joining the Louisville staff as an assistant (and getting them sanctioned). Jeff Capel, after being fired by Oklahoma, became an assistant at Duke. Again. That might not be relevant to this discussion, though. It's a bit rare, but it happens.

Yup and Larry Brown went to Memphis after Penny was named coach while Juwan Howard hired Phil Martelli at Michigan after being let go at St Joe’s. Happening more and more.

Didn’t Calhoun have a former HC on his bench too?

Norm Roberts, the former St John’s head coach, is Bill Self’s associate head coach at Kansas.

Interesting... he had a whopping one winning season at Pacific. Obviously working for the C's can help but this looks like a good hire for the rest of the ACC to keep beating up on them.
Two highest kenpom ratings at Pacific since 2010, at least. People who know college hoops really liked him there.

Probably a lower floor and higher ceiling than Ron Hunter. Interesting hire.

Yeah there was a lot of Buzz after the winning season that just kind of fizzled out once Covid hit.

Interesting pick by Ga Tech. I had forgotten that Stoudamire was HC at Pacific for a while, but was pretty mediocre other than one year where he won 23 games.

Ultimately it’s a bit of a gamble to go with a HC that’s been predominantly a west coast guy his entire life and had very limited success as a HC, then throw him in as a ACC head coach. Not sure if that’s a recipe for success.

Odd pick for GT considering they just talked about what high standards they have for performance… you’d think they would’ve picked up someone who had at least made it to the tournament
