Hip surgery will do that to you. He played hurt for the first 5 games or until he couldn’t play anymore.

He was on the sidelines Saturday on crutches.

Should finish his MBA in the spring.
We need tougher players. In my day, a kid would have hip surgery in the morning and play in a noon game the same day. McDonald had until 7:30pm.

Hopefully Fran is easing Carney into PT this game with the idea that he starts and gets all the PT vs UNC. UNC will have to prep for both QBs, although does it really make a difference?

UNC is a must win. If we go 5-7, that is respectable given the difficult schedule and losing Angeli. If we go 3-9, there will need to be some questions.

Maybe I am naive, myopic and just uninformed but it seems every year starting with Gerg and on to Doug, Shafer, Babers and now Fran we are hit with devastating injuries to key players by the back half of the sked. No matter what we do with strength and conditioning and nutrition it always seems to happen. I realize it's football but do other teams have the same problem? Did this happen to us during the glory years of Mac and P? I don’t seem to remember it happening with them as much. Any thoughts from the board on this?

The Mac and P glory years were against much lessor overall schedules. I grew up in the P years and aside from Canes and Hokies we could be missing starters and still have enough to win. We can no longer sit guys if they're nicked as we don't have 2/3rds of our games vs Temple, Rutgers, etc

If Ted Gregory finished the 1987 season, I think they would have handled Auburn and the WVU game wouldn’t have been close.
