First it goes without saying that the injury to Hunt ruined what was a good opening night by Syracuse. Words cant express how badly i feel for him. Life isnt fair sometimes and last night life showed how difficult it can be. My hope for him is that he decides to apply for a 6th year as he deserves it and with the loss of parents im sure that this team is his family so regardless of if he starts next year or ends up playing a different position i think it would be in his best interest to come back and add to his degree be with his family. My prayers go out to him.

I have read all of the comments about what a poor team RI is and i agree that they are not very good and therefore you have to take our results and realize that the opponents talent level is not close to what we will be up against going forward. Having said that my opinion on last night in all three aspects of play plus coaching is very positive.

Ill start with Lester. We looked organized and crisp. Sure the opening couple of series were strange but once we settled in we looked like a football team with a plan. I thought that the execution was very solid. The flow was solid and the play calling made complete sense. Not once did i see a play called that had me thinking What. I have been a fan of Lesters since day one and im more of a fan now. I believe that he connects with the players and i like his grading approach/math approach to running his side of the team. In short i believe he will be our best OC since George and is a huge upgrade not just in play calling but in leadership.

Dungey, Jordan, and the rest of the frosh on both sides of the ball were extremely impressive. I know that some posters like Roseconey put down the results because of the team that we played. My response to that relative to our frosh is simple. RI is better than any HS team that any of our Frosh played against last year in HS. These kids have a level of talent that we have not seen in years.

Going forward this is going to be an up and down year. We are really young and thin and it is going to show. I think that we win between and 4-6 games.

For me i saw enough last night to know that if given the time HCSS will get us to the point that we can play with most of the teams on our schedule. I believe we are two years away and i hope that he is provided with an extension as the guy knows how to identify talent and sell Syracuse.

Last night left me as positive about our program as i have been in a very long time. I just wish that T Hunt hadnt been hurt.

Should be a bumpy but fun ride this year.

Solid break down, lot of good things going on. I think if we avoid any more key injuries we have the potential to still surprise a few teams. Wake in particular is a game where I could see them looking at us without or Sr. QB and thinking it will be easier than they expect and then we punch them right in the jaw with a steady running game and some PA passes to keep them from loading the box.

Except for the delay of game on the first offensive play of the year it was a near perfect game for SU. Very good first game.

I would say this, with our lack of depth at QB, I hope Lester doesn't call too many designed runs for Dungy the rest of the way. Have to protect him. And I hope they drill into Dungy's head he has to slide when he does scramble and is out there running. He isn't built to take too many hits and survive

I could not agree more. Dungey should be instructed to only run if he sees a great opening, It is a crucial down say third or fourth in a game that is still to be decided, or he has a clear path to the end zone or sideline. Other than that simply dont run the ball. This year we have weapons and we simply cannot afford to have him hurt.

Solid--but one minor quibble: we aren't two years away. We're ONE year away -- I think we return something like 8-9 starters on BOTH sides of the ball next year. If Dungey is the real deal, and we can keep our incoming class [2016] intact, next year we might make the jump into the 8+ win zone.

Oh i agree two years from now we will have a legit chance to play with anyone on the schedule including FSU and Clemson but yes next year could be great as well

Next year will depend on the young OL. Plenty of people have noticed how the Shafer skill position kids have made their way onto the field, rightfully so. But we have no clue how Shafer has recruited on the OL. IMO identifying HS OL is a lot harder. Marrone did a good job in this regard. Being an OL guy he had an eye for it. We have no clue if Shafer can ID these kids.

We seem to like Midwestern linemen. Have collected a few of them.
