Garrett Shrader 2-Minute Drill | Louisville

I've had the tour of the track at Bristol a few times. It's a lifestyle that people plan their vacations around to go to races...sort of like Syracuse Football games.
Nascar was booming in the late 90s. Tracks just couldn't build enough seats but it has ebbed , kind of like the golf craze and in the same time frame. Many tracks aren't coming close to selling out. Myrtle Beach around 2000 had 120 courses on the grand strand now its around 90.

That was a weird interview. Is Higgins a Syracuse native, or native to upstate NY? I found it weird how he assumed NASCAR and hunting were southern things only. Watkins Glen isn't too far from here, and that's a huge NASCAR event, not to mention I know tons of people around the area who hunt, or have guns. Drive in any direction out of Syracuse, and your in the country in about 10 minutes. Higgins seemed a bit out of touch, not in a malicious way, just odd, and he seemed insulated in a university bubble a bit.

Hes odd. His interviews are uncomfortable

Man some of you guys are a tough crowd. Higgins referenced what Dino called him, "a good 'ol country boy" and asked him if that is true. This is what his quick 2 minute drill segments are about, a tiny bit about football but questions about the area the players come from and the differences and food about that area. Helps viewers get to know players in a different way. I like them. I didn't feel like he was being condescending about it.

Yeah, it was fine. The part about flying a #3 flag was a little bit weird, but no big deal.

Still not allowed to have his AR10 on campus. Most folks I know who hunt like to hunt with their own weapons.
There would be certain rules as to having an AR in Ny. The gun would have to be featureless or fixed mag with less than 10 round. My guess is his AR has neither. But no guns on campus would trump everything else unless he lived off campus.

Sweet T or Regular
Bojangles or Kentucky fried

Wet or Dry Rub

Shania or Dixie Chicks

Moonshine or Bourbon

Seriously Higgins needs to get out more. Guy comes across as a tad provincial.

Yep, that'd be a much better interview. Except I'd probably change the country singers to something like George Strait or Garth. Higgins just seemed like it was his first time interacting with a kid from the country. All that said, it was all in good nature, just very akward.

Like the time the guys on packer and D that they kept asking tommy about the boss. Im sure Higgins is a good guy but he really does need to broaden his world

Sure, he's got lots of time to go hunting in NY in between classes, practice, travel and games. Not to mention he wouldn't be allowed to keep his AR10 on campus.
There is an off-season. Is anything in season during the off-season?

Yeah, my brother got tickets for a race once at the last minute (big Nascar fan that lives in CNY). This was back when every Bristol race sold out. He rented an RV and drove through the night with some friends and family to get there on time for the race.

This is a hilarious discussion. Love boredom days. Many Syracuse football players have hunted (and fished) over the years. I believe Cody Catalina used to hunt locally and may have even done so on a board members land (or something like that.)

As for racing...geez...one of the best tracks in the country is in Watkins Glen and there's the famous Oswego dirt tracks. Not to mention the Syracuse Nationals. Bunch of good ole country boys right here in Upstate. It is a stupid stereotype line of questioning.

You'd have to change to singers from his generation like Jason Aldean or Florida Georgia Line. George Strait and Garth are relevant to his parents.

I'd also leave KFC off for chicken (I know it wasn't yiunthat said that). Even though it's my favorite for fast food chicken, most southerners I know prefer Bojangles or Chik fil a.

The 3 comment was weird. He died about the time Shrader was born.

Isn't Oswego asphalt? Fulton is dirt.

Oswego is asphalt but they moved super dirt week there from the NY State fairgrounds a few years back so its dirt for one week in the fall.

Back in the day, the hot spots in Central NY for DIRT was Rolling Wheels and Weedsport raceways. In my relative youth, (70's & 80's) spent most Friday and Sunday nights at those respective venues. 'Ol 'Wildly Will Cagle, #24 ruled the day back then.

Also, my neighbor at the time, Doug Heveron, went on to race the Supermodifieds at Oswego Speedway where he dominated for a while. He later went on the NASCAR circuit, but did not have much success there, primarily due to lack of sponsorships, etc.

Earnhardt is a beloved legend in NASCAR.

Yep Heveron was dominant, My friends father Brian Herb used to race against him. We would go a couple times a summer, You could bring in a cooler full of beer. It was fun.

At Bristol you could see all the RVs that had parked for a week before the race and then watch the helicopters landing before and during the race.
