Garrett Shrader 2-Minute Drill | Louisville

You don’t think there is a spring turkey season in NYS? Your comment really wasn’t necessary. I’m not going to argue with a mod but you’re presupposing a lot of things that aren’t true.
depends on where you want to hunt really.. wouldnt really have private land access all that easily and hunting on state land is pretty dicey around here much of the time.

also his ar-10 might need to modifications to be used in NY state.

Also, my neighbor at the time, Doug Heveron, went on to race the Supermodifieds at Oswego Speedway where he dominated for a while.

Wait until SUfaninAZ finds this thread. We grew up on this stuff.

Eddie B in '83!!

I was more of a Gosek double zero fan myself. For reasons of family and hockey.

He was one of those Love em or hate em personalities, In the South I would guess a lot more love.

I've lived in and around the Charlotte area for nearly three decades now. No doubt about the 'Love em or hate em' deal, even in the South. Of course, that all changed here in a heartbeat after that tragic February afternoon in 2001.

Yep, I grew up in Oswego also. I was there in '83 (actually helping a friend in the pits) and Joe G is a friend of mine. He also competed in the Indy 500.

And nobody can forget the baddest of the bad a$$es...Bentley Warren.

Magic Shoes Mike Mclaughlin was big more so for modified races there but he went on to race in the Busch series. ( and won a race I believe)

Not specifically tweeted by a player but:

This doesn't count.

Back in the day, the hot spots in Central NY for DIRT was Rolling Wheels and Weedsport raceways. In my relative youth, (70's & 80's) spent most Friday and Sunday nights at those respective venues. 'Ol 'Wildly Will Cagle, #24 ruled the day back then.

Also, my neighbor at the time, Doug Heveron, went on to race the Supermodifieds at Oswego Speedway where he dominated for a while. He later went on the NASCAR circuit, but did not have much success there, primarily due to lack of sponsorships, etc.
My father is in the Hall of fame for Dirt racing which is in Weedsport , NY I believe. When he first raced(he passed away 13 years ago) they lined up all the rookies and told them if they raced 10 years, to look to your left, look to your right - one of you will be dead and another will suffer a life altering injury at some point. My father ended up having a plate in his head, one leg was shorter than the other the result of a coma and 6 months in a full body cast from a crash. His doctor pointed his foot downwards to keep him from racing while in the cast. It didn’t work keeping him from racing and he invented and rebuilt his race car with hand controls for the accelerator and brake which ended up being used for paraplegics. He really disliked asphalt racing but did end up help building cars for it for others to race. Sorry God bless them all but they are insane risk takers.

Less important but the time and money these local drivers put into the cars is insane also.

Mike was the Oswego Speedway rookie of the year in '82 even though he already an impressive resume driving on dirt.

Yup definitely - financial, time and physical risk takers for sure.It ends up being an obsession.
My son and I ran supermodifieds for a number of years. We made a pledge to each other when we started:
"This is something we do...it is not who we are."

When it becomes more than that we promised to pull the plug. We did pull the plug and I'm proud to say that it was my son's decision. The expense was immense.

what was your car # Im guessing you knew the 11 (early 80s)

I like our good ole boy QB, he connects with a lot of us upstate new york outdoorsman with that interview. I am sure many out-of-staters do not know the real majority of what upstate NY is. We are quite country up here with a great mix of northeastern feeling cities. I love CNY and what it offers! I am sure GS is well aware by now the opportunities for outdoorsman here. Hope he takes advantage!

I knew Brian fairly well. He always had an absolutely beautiful car. In the '80's, I helped the 07. My son and I owned/funded and ran the #44 until 2014.

Rolling Wheels is for sale. Anyone want to buy a racetrack?

I think allot of the smiling and being relaxed is now he isn't the outsider so to speak. He is helping lead the team, leaves it on the field and as the guy now (plus departures) he is probably starting to build some nice friendships. Seems like a good guy. When things start to fall into place some, it has ripple effects. I think he comes out of the bye week and has a big game right from the start by the way. He should be well rested, maybe a new wrinkle or two was added.

I admit when I'm wrong and I stand corrected.

"Shrader said going into SU’s Week 9 win over Boston College was “probably the worst (he) felt going into a game this year,” and rested over the bye week. His time-off consisted of watching ‘Duck Dynasty’ on a reclining chair and, to his disappointment, missing out on a hunting trip with fellow SU quarterback Dillon Markiewicz.

“I had prior obligations, unfortunately,” he said, adding that he loaned Markiewicz his range finder. “I don’t even know if he came back with anything, but it was a funny trip to hear about that.”

It’s a Central New York hunting scene that Shrader said earlier this fall he was “making connections” in. And it’s an Orange QB room that he’s grown comfortable in since earning the starting job over former Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito in September.

“We all get along, we mesh really well,” Shrader said. “This is one of the better QB rooms I think I’ve been a part of.”

True, and would think for a outdoorsman Southerner the opportunity to hunt and fish the Adirondacks might not be bucket list but dam close. The insane amount of state land in 5f and 5h makes it very accessible too. I know if I had 4 years living in the Ozarks, Tetons, North Woods, etc... Now way I'd miss the opportunity to be in the woods at some point
