Gattis

What was he yelling about? The replay seemed like no one was open in back of endzone or did I miss something ?

You missed nothing. It was an inappropriate sideline blowup that everyones ok with because Collins should have been replaced by now. Has nothing to do with the game having gotten soft these days.

People are missing my point. It isn't the What (yelling at the player) it is the Who (not the HC nor OC) and the When (he made way worse plays than that one).

How can any player have confidence or respect for their QB now? Not that they do anyway.

Rickie is making money to play for SU.
At this point the water people should be allowed to light him up.
Zero concern for a “low level” coach that knows that they are doing lighting up a kid when he can’t see wide open WRs.
Get used to having ALOT of these “low level” coaches on the sidelines.
Days are gone of 10 people only really interacting with the players on the sidelines.
Read Gattis' bio. He isn't low level.

The thing for people that disagree is that he’s not a veteran with a lot of success to rely on that would warrant getting on him for missing an open guy.

I’m all for tough love and getting on your guys - but He’s making his second career start on the road. He is well aware he’s playing like crap. He doesn’t need a coach jumping down his throat too, he needs a little support. He’s seeing ghosts and has absolutely no confidence in himself at the moment and an assistant coach jumping on him immediately isn’t going to help him find that read any better. He can’t lock in because he has nothing to lock in on. It’s a confidence issue.

Athletes talk about this all the time that they’re scared to make a mistake but there’s a big group of sports fans that are ‘manly men’ only tough love works and you’re so focused on taking your anger out on a guy you don’t even care if he succeeds moving forward you just want to take your frustration out on him. Hell, our own Kaleb Joseph has made a second career out of talking to kids about this type of behavior from coaches. Your job is to coach your guys where they are, not where you want them to be. This isn’t healthy or helpful. As my mom used to say “there’s a time and place”

Depends. why do you assume he didn't deserve to be yelled at? Typically coaches lose their sht when you're doing something you've been repeatedly told not to do, or you ignore doing something you were told to do.

There wasn't all that much in the way of respect and confidence left to lose at that moment. There was a lesson to be learned. And I can't imagine they haven't already tried a large number of 'nice' ways to teach Rickie to go through progressions.

How the heck does a guy who keeps getting fired have the nerve to dress down the QB, and by default leader of the team? How does that help Collins or the team? The players see that and will lose any respect they have left for Collins.
Kid gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the football program is a 50 million dollar entity at Syracuse. If you want to get paid like a big boy, you should play like a winner, and you better be able to be held accountable for your play.

That doesn’t mean I don’t feel bad for him. I do. He seems like a really nice kid, and good team mate, but the players made this a “business”. And we deserve a good ROI. And so do his teammates. I’m sure when he was in the portal, he told Fran that he was “the guy you could count on, and should be paid accordingly”.

If he was the 4th string walk on or a freshman he gets a pass. There is too much riding on the teams success to coddle him.

Screaming at him like a lunatic will definitely make him a better player. He might even complete 50% of his passes next week because the guy who is hated everywhere he coaches yelled at him.
So you're saying he is going to get better because of it.

You’re on a jump to conclusions mat. You don’t know the inner workings of the staff and whether or not Gattis has the green light. If he doesn’t, then you will probably never see it again.

I saw Willis multiple times, Cook, Gill, JRS all get visibly upset with Collins before that.

That is a major issue that doesn't go away when not the HC, not the AHC, not the OC, not the AOC, not the QB coach chews him out.

The entire team is on the brink of exploding IMO. When an assistant coach goes off like that, it adds fuel to the fire. Fran has to make a change IMO to keep the team together and focused.

Theyre adults getting paid in a high pressure sport, I think its just old school coaching moment. Sometimes it’s a last ditch effort to try and get your QB to put it all on the line and play angry so to speak. Not a huge deal at all IMO
Right, such friggin snowflakes

He is yelling at him because the guy he was throwing to he gave zero chance to catch the ball since he threw it 15 yards to the right Out of abounds.

And I’m sure he was mentioning 5 yards to the left of the guy he was throwing to was a completely wide-open receiver for the touchdown that he completely missed as well, again.

You’re overreacting. It’s college football. Players get yelled at by coaches.

What should Gattis do? Pat him on the back and say “go get ‘em next time Rickie” Society has made so many people soft. He deserved it. Suck it up and be a man
How about some coaching, Collins needs to
Improve or he will
Be replaced by a better player. Yelling at players old school, holding them accountable is a preferred way, today!

We had pop warner coaches get after us like that. These are professional athletes. Right after that he was coaching him up. Different people react different ways to getting lit up. I personally like it when the timing is right, and like coach Fran said last week, "it can't get worse." What's the worst that happens? We don't score more than 3 points and we get boat raced again?
