Looks like we're putting our hat in the ring down there for those that are concerned. I noticed we had another georgia offer out to a kid from Marietta.

Can't hurt although I think it's an easier sell to get Chicago and St. Louis kids to Syracuse over kids from Georgia, but I think it's great to watch and see what happens.

Convincing kids to move away from extreme comfort areas is always difficult. The deep southern portion of the country provides a litany of comfort substance . Languagestyle food and weather, Of course the deep south is no longer what it was sociologically speaking so its becoming more realistic to go down there and bring some kids up. The social media connecting society has played a major part in this transformation which helps.Skyping tweets and such help the homesickness thing from becoming prohibitive. Go get 'em coach.

It's just a matter of numbers. The strategy should be backyard first, then major population centers with non-stop flights. Spending more of your time in GA and FL rather than IL and MO makes sense to me because there are about 400 D-1 prospects in those two states and about 100 combined in IL and MO. IL has a big population but Chicago is largely a dead zone like NYC because of the small number of HS football teams and poor grades. The best players in IL and MO will go B1G/SEC/B12 in that order. The primary competition in FL and especially GA is the SEC and the southern ACC schools. Is what's left over in IL and MO better than what's left over in GA and FL? Now that we will play regularly in FL, GA, and nearby SC, we also have a leg up on the second-tier B1G and B12 teams recruiting in those states. No such advantage in the Midwest.

Recruiting is time-consuming and expensive. Given limited resources, where would you give the bulk of your attention?

All good points and i do agree, the Georgia state numbers are incredible so it does make sense. But are the second tier kids down there worth it and of quality. For the few we got we'll know soon enough.

offering kids from Marietta makes sense - half the population down here are transplanted northerners who move to this part of Atlanta metro b/c of the great public schools. So the kids in this area have pretty good odds of having family up north and are likely to value getting a good education to go along with football.

^ This ... I live in Acworth and work in Marietta ... I have met more people originally from the NE and states like Michigan than those that are native to Georgia ... and no I am not joking.

And it's part of the bonus of being in the ACC that we offer kids from the south who might not have looked seriously at SU before. While at Syracuse, they'll still perform in front of familiar crowds when SU is on the road.

I lived in Marietta (Vinings actually) and almost everyone I met was from the northeast. It was hard to find people who were originally from the area.

Yes and that effect is two fold ... for example I have tons of family from NY/NJ and my wife and children are here with me in GA. So for instance if my son was to play D1 ball in the ACC he could go and play at home in front of mom and dad then go play in the NE in front of other family members like cousins, aunts/uncles and grandparents. He is only 17 months old right now and can only do a couple of pushups so the prospects are grim but I've got him on a strict training regiment. I have also submitted his recruiting video to Shafer so I'm working it :)

There is a certain cache nationally to a SU education.

yet another reason why they need to move the Yellow Jackets over to the Atlantic division when Louisville comes in - would really help SU mine this area if they would be playing in Atlanta every other year

Not to long ago SUFB used to mine OHIO and PA, but now only a few if any sign at SU. Also they got a couple of great plums from Conn, but since UConn went DIV-1 that stopped. NJ has hurt the most. With Rutgirls now doing much better the talent flow is slow there to and will get worse since Rutgirls going BIG-10. But NJ always got hit hard by other schools before Rutgirls got better. NYS has had talent that dougie lost for 4 straight years. Ill has some decent talent but not a FB factory either. SU should always get the majority of the top 5 players from NYS, but they don't!! HCSS and his crew should tighten up the slack for recruting. But I see them going south more often than not!! If they win with southern talent let it happen. That will get the NE kids looking harder SU's way.

Honestly, who gives a where they are from? There are measurables. You rank top talent, you offer anyone above a certain cutoff. If they are totally unresponsive, you move on. If they are responsive, you gauge interest. You then decide the effort you want to put in depending on interest, measurables and distance. If someone days no interest, You move on. Illinois, Georgia or Texas, who gives a !
