Gillon is a huge get

I think if anyone is expecting him to be any sort of primary 3 pt shooter, you will be disappointed. All he needs is to be capable in that regard to keep the D honest. I wouldnt want him taking more than 3 attempts a game from distance.

Right, and he will be able to shoot those 30 footers about 3 times in his Syracuse career before Boeheim shivs him in the locker room.

I think there is 0% chance of him starting. It will be either Battle and Mali or Battle and Howard. I couldn't imagine taking a starting spot away from a kid like Frank the Tank in a situation like this. He is going to be a stud player for us and has the size to actually play our defense.

This is all coming off way more negative than I intend it to. I am a huge Howard fan and think he will start and be great. I think Gillon will get minutes and will provide a really nice change of pace in his speed and quickness but will likely not shoot any better than Cooney did for his career and will likely be somewhat of a liability on defense. He will bring maturity and experience. Overall an excellent pick up.

I'd be willing to take both of those bets.

Yeah, my guess is that he shoots pretty decently next year, but on few attempts. I'd imagine somewhere around 37-40%. That's in line with his first two years at CSU when he didn't take a ton of shots. His playing time will directly depend on how well Syracuse's other players shoot. We could have trouble next year scoring if our spacing gets clogged--Frank currently can't shoot, Battle's not great (he might be fine) based on what I see, and Roberson and Chukwu/Coleman can't either. It's hard to play offense with 1.5 3 point shooters. Gillon would go a long way toward fixing that. Now, if Frank develops a reliable 3 point shot, all bets are off, and Gillion might not see the floor that much.

I think he has a better offensive game than TC. He looks like he has great skills. I love the passing. I love the handle on the cross-over dribble and between the legs stuff. If he shoots well from 3 he will be terrific. I just hope he can be long enough to provide good defense at the top of the zone. But I think we will be pleasantly surprised. I very nice get!

Agreed. This isn't a high school H.S. highlight tape as well. He was successful in a pretty good league in the Mountain West. Looks like a well-rounded guard with good speed like you said with lots of positive attributes to his game. He isn't timid which I love. We have been dealing with a myriad of guards/point guards lately without speed and who get sucked into playing more east-west rather than downhill. He doesn't seem to be the type who will need tons of screens to get freed up and run the offense whenever he is asked to do so. Love the addition of him.

Not a high school highlight tape is a very good point!

If he's making 3's consistently how can you say no?

Sorry man, if Gillon is anything less than an NBA MVP-caliber player, I will consider him a waste of a scholarship.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Put that bar up!

Don't call him Bug.

"Jimmy 'Bug' Williams was a speedy point guard for Syracuse basketball for four seasons. Williams was exceptionally quick, and considered one of the fastest basketball players ever at Syracuse University. He was also flamboyant in his style, and was known for wearing dark sunglasses during

practice."
What?

Just to put some actual numbers to this, last year, Guillon took .57 FT for every FGA. This was actually down from the year prior, when he was at .874, which I would say is probably a fluke to the high side.

For us last season, we had no one over .5 FT per FGA (I don't count Coleman, he didn't play that much).
In 2015, Rak was just over, at .51 FT per FGA.
In 2014, Jerami Grant was at .66.

So anyway, if you focus it on guards, instead of guys who spend more time inside, the last guard we had who can draw fouls like that is..Josh Wright. So maybe not a good example of why thi sis a good thing, but trust me, it is. And he's something like a career 80% FT shooter

Jimmy's first year he was more lenient back then.
