Gillon is a huge get

I'm assuming and planning on him not returning while at the same time...

Perfect player to bring off the bench when Howard and/or Battle needs a breather. I'm a little concerned about his lack of elevation on his three-point shots, especially considering he's only 6-0. Not to mention that doesn't bode well up top in the zone. But I like his penetration and passing skills. He's a solid addition after Richardson's departure.

I'm not that worried about his jumper. The opposing players have to give him space because of his speed. That opens up his jumper. And he looks to have nice range.

I just noticed that line. Way too much assuming going on here. MR could leave but I think there's a better than average chance he comes back. These early departures have not typically gone our way. This one might.
yeah I'm certainly not predicting either way, and would not be shocked if he stayed in the draft, but there's been nothing so far to indicate he is leaning that way (sorry but someone's interpretation of his body language and a couple of teams inquiring about him do not equal an indication)

They are under valuing because we are loosing two perimeter shooters and maybe a third. Howard simply doesn't fill that void.
He is a work in progress. Mali and,Battle are NBA guys and Gillon didn't come to sit.
If FH was JB's guy, would be recruit Gillon, Quade Green, etc.

Oh yeah. It's shiny object syndrome. It has been so long since we've had a commit that people are losing their minds over Gillon. I haven't checked the Mt. Rushmore thread, but I assume a few have him penciled in by now.

Ha, great post. Twitter is going nuts over him too, assuming Gillon is going to start. He was a great addition and will add a lot to our roster, but let's get him acclimated to his teammates, the zone defense, etc. I know he's probably 23 and a seasoned vet but still...

Bravo to the staff, because we needed the depth he will provide, that much we can all agree on.

Were those entry passes he was throwing, from the top of the key, straight down to the block, to bigs rolling to the basket? That will be harder for him to do in the ACC, but man that is something SU has sorely needed for the last few years. He has great vision for his size.

holy moly are people under-valuing Frankie H

He shot under 30% from the field and under 10% from three and wasn't even 2/1 in A/TO.

I know he's a freshman and I'm sure he'll do well here but he has a long long long way to go.

Sure, his scoring (and specifically his shot) left something to be desired last year, but anyone who watched the game can see his court vision, passing ability, handle and athleticism. The tools are clearly there, unlike with Kaleb, whose struggle you rightly predicted. Howard played meaningful minutes for us in the tournament as a freshman. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him play 25+ minutes a game next year if Mal leaves.

I agree with you about his court vision, passing ability and everything else, unfortunately there is more to the table he is going to have to bring. Battle and Lydon can't score all of our points. I sure as heck don't expect them from 72 or Roberson.

Well, JB knew what he had in Howard and went out and really wanted Gillon (or the kid that went to Cal). He didn't really want them for 10 minutes a game.

If the hipless Spike Albrecht had signed with us, it wouldn't have been for starter's minutes. Same deal. We picked up a capable backup and insurance policy. Not a bench rider or practice player, but not a guy to 'replace' Howard or Battle. IMO, of course... It's not like we went out to get a guy to replace Kaleb Joseph's freshman year. Howard has a higher ceiling. And, Battle...

Some people are forgetting that we are not going to produce much offense from the center position, and Mali is probably gone, and TR does not have a J, and TL is not a volume shooter. FH's weakness is not one that the rest of the team can paper over. I am not denying that he has many strengths, but is he a good fit for what might be an offensively challenged team?

I'm still learning Photoshop. I could not figure out how to get rid of the white part. It's a work in progress.

Seems legit, IMO.

Thanks.

I don't know what I'm going to do all day. The network is down here at work. All I have is my hot-spot off my phone. It's going to be a long day if I have to make posts all day! 25 more until I reach 6000. Maybe I will win a button!

No offense, HoustonCuse, but that is unadalturated bunk. Frankly, I don't think some of you are recognizing what you're seeing b/c it has been awhile since we've had a guard like this.

This kid was not brought in to sit, nor was that the expectation that was communicated to him in the recruiting process.

Edit--and honestly, no offense HC, I'm a fan of your posts.

I lost track of what the posting mile markers are but for some reason I think you need to hit 7500 or so. The sight does lay it all out somewhere. It seems like only a couple years ago that this sight split off from the sight that will not be named but it has to be more like 5 or 6 now.

I have spent sometime looking at both Mullins and Gillon highlights and i believe that we came out on top with Gillon. Mullins seems like a good player but didnt play against much comp and looks to be another Frank type player. Yes he has more length on D but next years team needs O much more than another tall G at the top.

Gillon can play both the 1 and 2. He has a great handle, will be our best three point shooter next year including Mali if he returns, adds speed that we have not seen since Bug Williams and brings a maturity to the locker room. This kid is a great get for us and i can see him playing a significant if not leading role on next years team.
Lol Gillon is YONDERS better than Mullins. Huge get for us. I think he will start

Seems like he has a pure stroke. Square, great rotation on the ball, waves it good bye and has NBA range. What i like about him is that he can take you off the dribble or with the jumper plus he doesnt miss foul shots. Man if Mali comes back we are going to have some fun!
He has an effortless looking shot. I love his stroke
