First, whatever gets him motivated, all for it. He can do the same thing as Alvin Mack did for all I care. It's good to see him grinding and hope he plays great for us and for himself. Again, I'd love to see him be our Kyle Lowry.

Got to say, the JB quote in there was a little odd.

“People forget he was not a point guard in high school. He’s played the position for two years. He’s been better than everybody out there on the internet thinks. The internet haters that want to hate on Joe like they hated on Buddy,” Boeheim said.

Bold, mine.

What is JB doing here? Listen, it's JB's program, so he can say what he wants, but this makes him seem a little sensitive.

Everyone hates Buddy? Everyone hates Joe? I mean, is he going for the "nobody believes in us" thing this year?

At this rate I can see him making a comment about Syracusefan.com during a press conference or interview and using the air quotes on "fan" for emphasis. Bonus if he mentions an individual poster by forum name.

objectively, jg3 had a down year last year and everyone knows it.

the people who noticed on the internet arent necessarily haters...a lot are just die hard fans keeping it real...some may have taken it a bit far but i dont think the sentiment has ever been vitriolic...more humorous if anything if you ask me...

kadary was a big time talent who left, at least partially bc he was second fiddle to a less than perfect jg3. i think fans who pay attention have a legit reason to be down that he left and connecting the dots seems pretty obvious...the way jb managed the roster put a lot on jg3 shoulders and he didnt come up roses all the time last season...kadary can do the things joe struggles with and that the team needs...

but he came up big in NCAA tourney until houston blew the doors off the orange.

if he can turn it up a notch from where he was freshman year...he can be a good enough pg to lead this team to its highest potential.

that said, there are some limitations he has that wont really be fixed with hard work i.e. size and speed.

having a point gaurd who cant score in the paint is a tough obstacle for a team to overcome if it wants to win it all, imo...if he can incorporate that into his game he will take this team to the next level.

he obviously has heart;...wouldnt be where he is at his size without it...

hopefully he can channel some chris paul/steve nash this year and hit a higher % of 3's...wanna see more assists and less bonehead plays...
I'm rooting for Joe which should be obvious and hopefully everyone is. He is the one that stayed and is working hard and I give him credit for that. I do think his mentality will serve him well. I was pretty vocal last year that I thought Kidary should have played more but I think Joe will make a good leap this year and I think having multiple shooters around him will help. Regarding Kidary he was in the 75-100 range and was a good distributor and a solid defender but not the best shooter. He was not Pearl Washington or Sherman Douglas.

Good post.

Of course Kadary should have played more last year although it is exactly true...as you say...that he was not Pearl or Sherm although he had the best point guard skills of the backcourt guys. The problem that I had was that even though most of us thought that the Joe/Kadary court time ratio was not optimal, a small segment of the board used that as an excuse to constantly rip Joe and post stupid and juvenile stuff about him. The board became very reminiscent of the old syracuse.com board, which so many of us on this board used to look down upon.

It was both repetitive, stupid, and frankly why rip a player just because your teenage crush isn't starting? It wasn't Joe's fault and he bleeds Orange more than anybody here so why do stuff like that to a player on a team that we all supposedly love?

Rooting for Joe and hope he has a solid year. Rooting for all of the guys, as always.

i agreee with the general point you are making i.e. orange fans should root for Joe but I think you're underrating kadary's skills as a shooter/scorer.

he had the same % from 3 as joe last season and shot 10% higher from the field overall...45% to 35%

AND he had more assists/minute than Joe as well.

all that with a much shorter leash/more restrictions, imo ...

its a bit premature to say what kadary is or isn't imo.

I think having two other dead-eye shooters on the court is going to help Joe's game a lot this year, since he'll no longer be seeing his scoring from deep as being so crucial to the team's success.

In other words, he won't be looking for his own shot so much, but will more vividly see his biggest contribution to the team as that of the guy who is getting the rock distributed to whichever of those other great shooters on the team is open.

That's right...we may very well see Joe slip comfortably into the role of a True Point Guard this year...and then of course being the oh-so-reliable money shooter from three when he finds himself open deep into the shot clock.

JB's comments re: Joe being the most improved guard on the team suggest that this is exactly what he's been seeing so far...

this is literally the same post made last year when we got Griffin.
Joe’s game is Joe’s game. Any expectation on some rapid change to a pure point is just not gonna happen.

He needs to play better D and have better shot selection. The game vs San Diego State (edit: I think I’m thinking of the WVU game actually, although he was great in both, there was one game where the Buddy/Joe D was noticeably better than the rest of the season..so that one) in the tourney is the template. He plays like that for 75 percent of our games and we’re gonna be real good.

That's pretty true...12 points/7 assists (but 4 TO's).

But that means Joe has to play more like a point guard and much less like a shooting guard/scorer.

If he can get into that mindset and not think he has to score big this team could be really good because there are at least 4 other guys who can put the ball in the basket.
And with those guys attracting defenders Joe will still get shots.

absolutely...most of the assists though, he’s just swinging the ball or passing to Buddy off a curl. Which is great!
...but its not like we‘re running pick and roll like he’s John Stockton. That’s not his game

It’s a blog article on a Syracuse basketball player in which they talked to said player and his head coach. What other side? You wanted them to get quotes from message board posters?
Well that is where so many get their "facts" from isn't it?

I'll be satisfied if he just doesn't take those heat checks from 30 when his teammates are hitting from deep.

Outside of that 30 footer he made against WVU both of those games were exactly what he needs to be. I'm not against a few when he is just flat out on but in the other 25 games- keep it within the flow.

This is a young man who does not see failure as an option. His D will be what it is. His shot selection is only suspect when he misses. I think we may welcome those insanely deep threes by the end of the year. I wouldn’t bet against Joe.

If he can hit 6 of them in the first half of the national title game- sure.

Boeheim being sensitive? Bwhahahaha. Love the coach, but he's very thin skinned.

As for Joe, most of the crap that he got last year really wasn't intended for him personally. For me, my frustration was mostly aimed at Boeheim for not starting or playing Kadary more and losing such a good player. To be honest, I'm still a bit miffed, but have tried to move on because what's done is done.

sorry...no. You can miss and it can be a good shot. You can also make a shot and it was still a low percentage shot.

if you are making 40 percent from the logo like lillard, curry, or trey. It’s a good shot
