I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and it is why I think he could very well pull us out from the abyss that this program is in. He is a proven winner. And that is why I am such an advocate.
Worked his ass off as a player - won the national championship as a freshman and won the most memorable big east tournament championship as a 9 seed as a senior
Literally willed that team to the big east championship
And took over a dumpster fire 4 win team in Siena and 2 years later has them in position to make the NCAAT.
The guy is a flat out winner.
The guy called his shot and delivered.
Mark my words - he will be a great coach.
He may never coach at SU but he will make himself his own winning coaching legacy.
Will the Saints go marching in? The game plan is pretty simple.Go Saints… would love to root for Gerry and his team in the tournament…it’d be the first time in 5 years I would truly care about a tournament game
Not without a major investment in the program. We will soon find out if the University is willing to put their money into the program. No money means no winning!I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and it is why I think he could very well pull us out from the abyss that this program is in. He is a proven winner.
I find that interesting. I remember back in the day where people were split on whether they were rooting for Brianna Stewart or Greg Paulus (when at Duke) because they were from Syracuse and even Donovan McNabb with the Eagles, but you might be one of the very few not interested in the success of one of Syracuse Orangemen's all time favorites as a head coach.lol I literally couldn’t care less about Siena. I’m focused on Syracuse athletics, specifically basketball in 2026.
I know what you mean. These threads feel like Boeheim's Army threads. I certainly understand people rooting for GMac. He's a Syracuse legend. But there has been WAY too much nostalgia the last few years.lol I literally couldn’t care less about Siena. I’m focused on Syracuse athletics, specifically basketball in 2026.
It’s different. Greg and BS are from Syracuse. So those of us who knew them would always root for them. I think there’s 2 fans - people who root for people that did great things at SU and fans who root for people from Syracuse. I care more about rooting for people from where I grew up and now live but I’ll still watch the game tonight and hope Gerry wins.I find that interesting. Well when your beloved team has seriously sucked for the last 2 years, all you have is nostalgiaI know what you mean. These threads feel like Boeheim's Army threads. I certainly understand people rooting for GMac. He's a Syracuse legend. But there has been WAY too much nostalgia the last few years.
Exactly. That's the sad part. It's another reminder of how far we have fallen.Well when your beloved team has seriously sucked for the last 2 years, all you have is nostalgia
And both Breanna and Greg went to rival schools and chose not to support their hometown team. Not everyone rooted for them. And when Syracuse faced Breanna in the 2016 championship game, it was even worse. The first time Syracuse women had a chance at a National Championship and the girl who spent a ton of time on their campus, was a huge reason, they got blown out. It’s different. Then why even bother reading this thread, never mind actually posting a comment.lol I literally couldn’t care less about Siena. I’m focused on Syracuse athletics, specifically basketball in 2026.
We messed up once. We will mess up again. It SHOULD have been Gerry. And that is why I am such an advocate.

There’s no way anyone could turn down UConn and Duke though. And SU didn’t recruit either one of them really. They never thought they had a chance. And both Breanna and Greg went to rival schools and chose not to support their hometown team. Not everyone rooted for them.
