GMAC / Blackwell / AO to Siena

I think it’s hysterical that some here are claiming GMac is the better coach when both Red and Gerry are sporting 9-11 records. Neither one was qualified to become head coach at Syracuse.
Well Gerry did take over a 4 win program so it's not totally the same. But I agree with your second point that I wanted new blood with an outside hire

I mean...

I guess Jim Boeheim was an unqualified internal hire too then, huh?
You mean before the Big East conference was even formed and we were independent? Before Syracuse was really Syracuse and you were lucky if your program made it on tv more than a handful of times all season? You mean before the Dome was built?

Are you talking about conditions then as if they are somehow relevant now or as though somehow Boeheim's singular career in all of college hoops is predictive of anything else in any other way?

Is that why you're asking if Jim Boeheim was an unqualified internal hire?

JB also took over the team when we made 4 consecutive tournaments and were a year removed from the FF in a time where the tournament was just 16 teams until 1975 and 32 the previous two seasons before he got the job.

I know JB took us national, but it wasn’t like he walked into a BC like situation. The school had already been good for entire decade of the 70’s thanks to Danforth.

Red walked into a worse situation than JB.

Well said. To sum it up, doing something because it worked 50 years ago isn't always the best business practice.

I'm sorry. Did you say something? I was watching my console TV with my new cable box

You're going to compare the environment in the 70s- and especially the program itself- to today?

Every comment you make on this topic seems more ridiculous than the last and shows how out of touch you are. When you finally admit (even to yourself) that the problem is Red, it will make things so much easier for you. You're in good company here; the difference is that most of us are in the acceptance stage.

We'll be kind. Each of us has already been there.

Was he or not?

Sweet dreams.

Lemme tell you about a technology that's gonna change how you do business called a fax machine...
Just learned via the internet so it must be true, the Fax’s origins date back to the 1800’s. Crazy right. :)

Exactly. All the top programs are throwing huge money out there to compete. Syracuse on a budget, which we’ve been doing even during the JB years, is not viable. The slow burn has finally come home to roost, and without 20k fans, the distance between us and the top tier will grow exponentially.

Just because you think or say it doesn’t make it true. Were you actually at the game today?
All these people spewing nonsense when they don’t even watch the games. SMDH. I mean, FloridaCuse says he watched Siena yesterday but hasn’t watched a Cuse game since Georgetown! How can you have an opinion about the team when you haven’t watched a game in almost two months? He should go be a Siena fan then. I’m torn about Red but only because of the Melo factor, him coming in next year and helping to boost our NIL and get better players in the portal. And hopefully hire an experienced former head coach to improve the defense. Otherwise I’d say it’s time to move on and do a national search.

You mean when Boeheim became a grad assistant in 1969 after Danforth went 9-16 his first year, then made JB became a full time assistant In 1970? Danforth left in 1976 after 4 straight NCAA tournament bids at SU then went to Tulane for 5 straight losing seasons, a 193-161 record, no post season bids and left coaching. No offense to Roy.

I’m assuming that Red was well aware that bringing in 4 grad transfers for just a single year at SU would make this a transitional year. Think about it. Not one transfer had more than a year of eligibility. I imagine he hoped that their experience, maturity and knowledge that this was their last year playing would be motivation to mesh, compete, work hard and make this a decent transitional year particularly if as reported, NIL was an issue this past year.

It's frustrating because Red has asserted all the control over how this roster is constructed and the team has taken a huge backslide compared to year one. You could argue most of his choices in the off-season didn't work out.

Kept Bell
Got Lampkin and Carlos
Donnie injured (not Reds fault)
Choppa not quite helpful yet.
Davis and Taylor are ok but backups are best
McLeod and Westry DNP injury basically
