GMAC / Blackwell / AO to Siena

It doesn't sound like our SU will agree to play. Is GMac trying to entice AA into playing?

From my understanding, Le Moyne has been trying to get Siena to agree to a home and home game (perhaps with the Le Moyne "home" game being at the War Memorial), but Gerry wants his first time back in cuse to be at the Dome (understandably so).

Didn't see this before but Peter Carey has moved over. No longer at Siena. Also will SU be playing SU? See end of today's Times Union article.

McNamara said there's a "very good chance" of Siena playing a guarantee game next season. Asked if it could be Syracuse, his alma mater, McNamara replied, ""That'd be nice, wouldn't it? We'll see, we'll see. We'll see if they'll play. We'll see."

Red’s a coward. Playing Siena would generate eyeballs and buzz in the capital region. It would help Gerry’s program by giving them a marquee game. Have we fallen that much that we are scared of a buy game with little ole Siena? He’s already ditched Colgate and Cornell. Red’s scared to lose these games. Playing Binghamton isn’t going to build our brand. Adopt the Izzo mindset. Any team. Any place. Credit to Gerry for needling Red and the school via the press

We ditched Colgate and Lemoyne.

Cornell hasn't been mentioned either way.

It's the "We'll see if they'll play" that led to my doubts. Friendly banter.

If by some chance Siena wins, it will inevitably invite criticism of Autry and his hire over Gmac as the HC.

It's completely avoidable by not playing them. Again, to play them is insanity. There's no upside.

You don’t silence your haters and show you’re the right man for the job by dodging your challengers. Reds body of work speaks for itself. Nobody is going to judge his coaching abilities based on a single game at this point.

I think the upside is genuine interest and enthusiasm from the fan base - both die hards and casuals.
I would enjoy watching that game.

Love GMac but wouldn’t Siena playing a now open game with Colgate, who has won their own conference championships 4 years in a row, been to the NCAA’s, be a really great 2nd year test for Siena towards their own goal of winning the MAAC? SU has plenty of tests in their own schedule.

Perhaps.
But I care here about SU, not what is best for Siena.
And as an SU fan, I want to watch us play Siena.

First, we aren't afraid to play Siena. Or Colgate. Or Lemoyne. But the question for us is how this benefits us. They don't. They add nothing to our SOS. They are good enough that if they beat us, it hurts and if we win, it doesn't help. Exactly the type of team you want to avoid.

I get it, but the schedule needs to be filled out by *someone* and there will be plenty of teams that fit into the above category. It feels like the program is trying to make sure that those are no longer local teams, thus avoiding egg on their faces if an upset occurs. Like they anticipate a loss to Drexel or Purdue-Fort Wayne not resonating the same as a loss to Siena or UAlbany.

I really don’t think the reputational risk has anything to do with it at all. We need to make the tournament atleast. I think it has to do with scheduling that can help our NET. Also with revenue sharing, I’m sure there is a factor of making sure that we find cheaper buy games, so we can save that money for the players.
