Yeah, given time, I think Siena will become the class of the MAAC.
How ironic if he gets Siena back to the NCAAT before we get back there.
Considering the 4 win dumpster fire he took over.
Recruiting talent is very important.
But knowing how to optimize that talent in a team setting and instill the right culture is more important. And how to make in game adjustments and when to call timeouts.
It is sad to say that I enjoy watching the Siena games more than ours.
As a fan of SU for 50 years, the new reality is heartbreaking

Eh I don't know about the class of the MAAC. I still doubt their purse strings.

If GMAC had been given the job we would have just as many “GMAC can’t recruit” threads. “At least we know Red can recruit”…etc.

ADJW chose the guy he thought could bring in the better Jimmys and Joes. Right now, that’s my biggest concern - I’m not sure he’s good enough at talent evaluation. The portal decisions turned out to be pretty sketchy.

ADJW also felt going in house was the right call. Can’t blame him for choosing Red over GMAC.

Let’s see what happens if a salary cap concept with direct payments from schools is put in place. Need an governing body with teeth to enforce it…

Yeah, but his team with Wade having a great, great game beat #1 Kentucky in the EE - which made me very happy and eliminated a huge threat to SU.

By the culture he has brought and the fact that his teams play very hard all game on both sides of the ball. And that he actually appears to be a good in game coach
And his team is on an upward trajectory, unlike SU.
Watch their games. Listen to what his players say.
I dare say that only happens at Syracuse with a new head coach, a move that is sadly probably 2 years away.
Talent can not overcome bad coaching, but good coaching can maximize mediocre talent.

Time will tell for Syracuse.
I pray that one day Red figures out how to be an effective coach, you have to be more than a great recruiter

Absolutely true if we ended up with the same game results.
But I think GMAC would have gotten more out of lesser talent.
And I think Bell would be shooting better, GMAC was a great shooting coach.
Frankly, he has great street cred to be listened to by the players.
He was one of 2 stars on our only national championship team, did incredible things from 3 point range.
Obviously, whatever Red is trying to teach the players, they are just tuning him out.
Our play on the court reflects that.
Goes back to his being everyone’s buddy for years as the assistant.
Now he has to crack the whip and make the big decisions.
i feel he is having a hard time making that transition

I don't agree that is why ADJW chose AA. I believe he chose him because he was the one sitting in the next chair and couldn't even consider bypassing him. Nor probably could anyone.

The way JB was awkwardly let go/retired made a national search too difficult and problematic. AA got the job purely because he was next in line, not because they thought he would be a tremendous head coach. Though they had good reason to believe he was a very good recruiter.They just didn’t know what kind of coach he would be.
I doubt if Gerry was even considered, despite JB’s believed preference.
The optics alone would have looked terrible promoting Gerry over Red.
And at that point Gerry had nothing to show that he would have been a much better hire.
I personally thought he would have been the better choice back then because of the intangibles I thought he would bring.
I thought if nothing else his teams would work hard and never give up.
And that is exactly what the Siena team is now.
But no one could blame JW for hiring AA .

Gerry appears to be significantly better at the basketball part of the job than Red.

I mean possibly but clearly debatable.
Time will tell and I don't know who I want to come out on top at this point. It would be satisfying if Autry turns this mess around but then GMac comes in and takes us to the top.

What is clear to me is that we have a bunch of good guys as coaches...Who is the 1 coach that we have that 'cracks the whip'?
None now...and that is what I believe wins the debate for Gmac...A good guy that is able to crack the whip.
