God bless Hugh Freezes arrogance

Did Shrader get the first? Thought he got 10 but needed like 15?

Maybe I had it wrong, but I thought if he used the last TO, then we still had enough downs to run it down.

But you’re probably right and if so he’s an idiot for saving to freeze the kicker.

Freeze could have got the ball back with about 15 to 20 seconds if he used the TO

I don’t think could fathom how improved we would be from the team they faced last year; plus he was trying to make a statement to his team about believing in them.
If they score he’s a gutsy genius; they way it worked out, he looks like el stupido!
Most importantly, we are 3-1 and just need 3 more wins to go bowling.

I mean we would have been flipping out had we not gone for it on 4th there! It was the smart play. You need to trust your team to get 1 yard.

I also can’t believe Dino doesn’t go for it on 4th and 1 and punted at that point in the game.
Good observation by Cuse4Life. Given the circumstances, I think Freeze made the right call going for the TD. At that point, it was a math problem (probability). With the question being, which play will give us the best chance of winning this game. Liberty has a QB who can almost always convert on 3rd or 4th and short. Cuse's offense has been stalling. Cuse has a very good kicker.

And so was Liberty about two seconds after the punt
Come on, you can't assume they make a big play like that, the way our defense was playing up to that point. Having said that, I was disappointed we didn't go for it there with how we had moved the ball on the ground. Perfect TE throwback situation.

Best chance is getting the points which is the field goal.

Freeze played the odds correctly, IMO. If he goes for it and fails, Syracuse has to put a long sustained drive together just to get to FG range, which would still give Liberty one more possession. If he kicks the FG, he has to worry about one play beating him.

Ya it's funny how easily so many of these points can be turned on their head. "Kick because our offense wasn't doing anything". Ha, that might be a reason to go for it on the 2. It was likely they'd get it back which they did. Ultimately the fumble decided the game.

Yes, that's it. Liberty dominated on both sides in the second half, he went with the momentum odds, the correct play.

Freeze in his presser said that the analytics said to go for it, that the missed field goal figured into it, and that, if they didn't get it, SU would get it on the two yard line and his defense was playing well. He also thought that if he put it in the hands of his best player, he would get in. He also said he'd have to look at the film to see if the QB made the right decision to cut it up when he did.

And, by the way, there was not a shred of arrogance in any of the three press conferences Freeze gave about this game. I'm not a fan of the whole concept of Liberty as an institution and I know nothing about Hugh Freeze other than in relation to the three SU/Liberty games, but he doesn't strike me as arrogant. Believing in your team isn't arrogant in my opinion.

Realize not likely correct, but with NFL 30 scouts there watching your stud QB, giving Willis the opportunity to prance into the end zone on a huge 4th down TD could play into that decision.

Willis has NFL talent, but didn't strike me as a Leader Of Men. Just sayin' -debatable.

Field position doesn't matter as much as punters want it to. That is why all the numbers say to go for it there.
Yeah, I understand the numbers and am typically anti-punt. But from your own 35? Late in the game?

Dominate is a strong word for their D at any point yesterday. They were clicking on O and legit scary.

SU didn't score in the second half, until the field goal. Liberty got a little out of sorts a t the start of the game with the bright lites and prime time exposure. They are still an upstart, but I think they will be tough to beat the rest of this season. Actually this last second loss doesn't really hurt them and probably helps them. And the last second win really helps the Orange, so both teams got a lot of positives out of the game.

Our first drive of the 2nd half was a TD.

Old age will do that to you. But I think you might agree that their defense really stiffened up( Chip ) in the second half.
They did. But I think we missed some opportunities too.

There was a couple of 1st downs we should’ve had to extend drives that we didn’t, specifically in the 3rd. I don’t think they dominated, but they definitely tightened up. And Dino played a bit more conservative with the lead and leaned on his defense (I don’t disagree necessarily either).

There were opportunities there for the taking, we’ll need to capitalize on those in the future.

Agreed.

It seemed very much like once we got up 21-7, Dino was then "playing not to lose", rather than "playing to win".

And, it almost bit him in the arse, BIGLY.

Tucker and the fantastic play by the D late saved his and our bacon.

Everyone in the chat saw the defense was tired at that point. Not hindsight

I like to say Wax, Roscoe and Jones decided the game.
