Going for 2 isn't any different than going for the TD or going for it on 4th and 8 in your own territory. They are all gambles to get more points. If you think he should have gone for that initial TD or complain about the punts, then you must be ok with going for 2, otherwise you're talking out of both sides of your mouth.

The 2pt conversion is hitting on 13 against a 2. Trivially wrong.
The FG is sticking on 12 against an Ace. Laughably horrendous.

No, neither was a "gamble". Each was a decision you make based on probabilities. And remarkably he was wrong in each case.
 
Given the respective scores and time remaining, you could make an argument both ways. All I know is I was against both decisions prior to knowing their results.
