SU staff is raving about Trevor Cooney. Had disappointing season last year. Critical piece for the Orange bc of shot making ability.

Really need this kid to step up this year. No question had a tough year last year, but he brings a legit 3-shot to the table. Pulling for the kid. Hopefully his cobwebs are gone.

Anyone worried a bit about how muscular he is getting dude is jacked not sure I have seen a 3 point machine that has been that muscular before just hope he gets his distance on mark this year. Glad to hear that he is doing well. 3 guard rotation with him G and ennis, sprinkle in a little Buss as well.

I have all the faith in the world in Cooney. He had a rough go last year, but I think he steps into his own this year and turns into an assassin from deep. I predict a lot of Cooooooo-nnneeeeeyyy chants in the Dome this season.

My faith in him is somewhat shaken. But I still believe he can turn it around this year. The opportunity is there for him, and the good news is that we have guys who can fill in just in case, ie, Gbinije, Buss, BJ.

Either this competition lights a fire in him or someone takes over the job. One way or the other, you have to give JB credit for filling the needs at this slot. Options are good here. And I would love for Cooney to prove me and others wrong.

Me too. Don't forget his role in the zone, where he did excel last year.

Plus that he might have gotten laid 800 times. I hear that helps. :) That's my PSA for the month.
Can't hurt. I mean, unless you want it to. But be sure to use a safety word.;)

Why can't we bring back the old Steve Kerr cheer from Arizona when after a three everyone was silent while the announcer bellowed out STEEEVVVE! and the crowd all chimed in KERRRRRRRR! Lets do that with Trevor.

I don't know that lacking fire was the problem. If anything, he was too amped and let his nerves get the best of him. I'm hoping the game has slowed down for him and that he can play calm and controlled.

Good point! Yeah, fire was not a great choice of words there in that he was too pumped up, too nervous.

Boeheim on Trevor Cooney "He's lost a bit of weight. I think he'll have a good year. He's an important piece."

I really liked Trevor from his HS vids & I kept the faith for about 2/3 of last season. However, I am now a non-believer and I very much hope the kid will prove me wrong. I will definitely praise his effort and he seemed to be reasonably solid on D considering that he has at best average athleticism for a 2G. He does not add any particular length to the Zone.

The issues I have with Trevor's game:

1. No real burst on his drive moves and he showed no special ability to finish at the rim. Devo he is not.

2. He lacks the handle and the vision to be a legit backup PG.

3. His only position is 2G, and to me, this is the biggie. I did not like his form on his J. It always looked to me like he was pushing the ball with his shooting arm at too low a trajectory. I cannot re-call if this was how he shot in HS or if he had a change of form. Anyways, the way he was shooting forced him to rush his shot to avoid being blocked. He doesn't seem to have the "over the top" stroke of a great jump shooter. He needs to shoot at least 45% from trey land to really do what this team needs him to do, and I do not see him coming close to that number.

I simply do not think Trevor comes close to starting over MG, and though I am not predicting it, it would not surprise me in the least if Buss or even BJ took most of his backup 2G minutes.

Yes, I really want to have a nice southern fried crow dinner with some yummy humble pie ala mode for dessert over this post, but I gotta say what I saw from last season.

Well said, my friend. Well said. Staff and others were raving about him last season too pre-season. Like you say; I hope he proves me wrong also.

:You'd have to clear that with Mr. Excitement.

Well all last season the staff kept saying that he was a great shooter IN PRACTICE. In real games I've never seen anyone miss shots by such a wide left/right margin. I hope he has improved and is great this year...but we'll see when we get some real games and not just practice.
