Defense will move up rankings. They were pretty good. Horrible SU offense makes the d look better because bc spent most of the game taking no risk

Plus all those 3 and outs by the SU offense gave the D plenty of opportunities to show what they had, right? I get your point and it is a valid one because it did prevent other teams from going for it but on the flip side with that comes bigger plays for the D as well.

Playing defense with an offense like that had to be mentally frustrating as well and the fact that this defense fought hard for 60 minutes told me a lot.

This is a good example of taking your answer and bending the stats to your conclusion.

BC is a meathead team that doesn't take risks. They run and the run and then fake the run to run.

Not bending anything. I don't think the d was great but their stats were today

Well that meathead offense scored 21 points today- a number Syracuse reached in regulation in 1 game this season.

Isn't it fundamental that when your team has a very bad offense your defense ends up on the field a lot more without much time to rest? Doesn't that end up putting a lot of pressure on your defense over the course of a game let alone the course of an entire season? The bad SU offense put tremendous pressure on the SU defense all season long, no?

offset by teams recognizing that the only way they'll lose is it give up defensive tds. Lots of bad teams with good defensive ypg like wake forest

That's right, I saw your post recently where you were surprised that Penn State and Michigan had good defenses. Imagine how much better those defenses and those teams would be if those teams had good play on offense. BC ran it's offense today. BC rarely takes much risk on offense. SU's defense matches up well with BC's offense. BC even tried to score a TD going for it on 4th down near the goal line late. I have no problem personally with BC doing that, but I'm pointing it out as an example of how BC played aggressively on offense for a full 60.

Totally agree. Simple logic. They aren't on the field as much. When they are, it's in better field position. And if we get a lead, the defense can take more chances. Having good defensive numbers with this offense is a major accomplishment. A good offense makes a defense's job easier and their numbers better.

I mean--that's really unbelievable to wrap one's head around. And yet, its true. We simply could not score this season. Wow.

Not only that but look at all the turnovers our defense created against Notre Dame and the offense was never able to take advantage of them.
Look at the effort the defense put up against Clemson and again it was wasted by the offense.

The truth is that we no quarterback and no game breakers at either running back or wide receiver. The defense for the most part played hard and put us in a position to win a number of games.

I think the D was great in the first half. One bad drive with a backbreaking penalty (happens to the best of them) but otherwise dominant.

Then Shafer threw in the towel in the last minute of the first half, as only Shafer can. I think it impacts the whole team when their coach doesn't even try. At all.

Not surprised they struggled in the 2nd half. As Shafer stood there watching the first half clock wind down, he was really watching the end of the game.

More to come in 2015.
