Goodell needs to be fired after watching the Rice video

More punishment should be coming, though what a joke it was to begin with.

Saw this the other day after the Welker suspension:

NFL employee: "Welker popped Molly"

Commish: "Supsend him two games"

Employee: "Sir, Molly is a drug"

Commish: "Oh, in that case suspend him four games"

Peter King is an absolute stooge for Goodell. I will no longer read MMQB.

Completely agree. I used to enjoyably read MMQB religiously. Must read monday morning material. But over time I've really gotten tired of his bully pulpit political moralizing.

Edit: I think King's problem is with the degrees of freedom that blog reporting give him. In a magazine or on TV, he's forced to be more concise and focused. In his blog, he has unlimited space and no restrictions / limitations, so now he fills the space with whatever drivel pops into his mind. I get the impression that he isn't trying as hard as he used to--his MMQB column these days reminds me of Larry King's unintentionally hilarious USA Today column from years ago.

I want to know how Rice stayed out of jail if the police had that evidence...

I'm guessing his fiancee didn't press charges in order to protect her meal ticket?

IMO, once they got married the prosecution felt it would be a hard case to win in a trial. By marrying the women the only real witness couldn't be compelled to testify against Rice. So the prosecution settled for diversion to get something on the record instead of relying on the video which would have been motioned to be suppressed by the defense. The Suppression hearing would have likely gone the prosecution's way, but who knows.

I agree that the prosecution probably thought the best they could do was diversion for Rice. Goodell on the other hand has to be the biggest idiot in the world if he let the plea for lenience by the victim sway him. Any jackass who took a psych class knows that abuse victims do that all the time, they think if they stick up for their man he will stop beating them up.

Rutgers must cut all ties with Ray Rice after disgusting elevator video (NJ.com: Politi)

Start with the highlight video that appears during games at High Point Solutions Stadium, the one that trumpets all the Rutgers players now in the NFL. That needs to go first, because the last thing Rutgers needs now is to put its most prominent player on display during its primetime Big Ten debut on Saturday night.

But Rutgers can't stop there. It needs to take down the photos – in the press box, in the recruiting lounge, in the locker room, in the Hale Center lobby, on its website. The university can't scrub Ray Rice from its history, but it sure can't try to celebrate it any more...

Time to dig up the Marco Battaglia and Ray Lucas footage! A brilliant day for them!

After the initial video came out, this is what everybody's favorite AD had to say. Because - yeah - the GF is at least as guilty.

“My understanding is that they were both significantly under the influence, which, of course, leads to the worst behavior,” she said. “I'd like to see both of them step up and say, 'I was an idiot. He was an idiot. This isn't acceptable, what happened. I take responsibility, so does he. This is a one-time incident. You won't hear from us again.'”

if rutgers should cut ties with rice, then we need to stop blaming not landing ray rice for everything that led to GERG.

People are all up in arms about his status/lack of suspension in the NFL, but I want to know why he isn't in Jail? Clear video evidence, its the state vs Ray rice in this type of situation regardless of if the wife did or did not want to press charges because it was a criminal act. How does the police watch that video and not take him to court and put him in jail? They should be the ones getting blasted, instead they are getting off the hook and everyone is ignoring them because of Goodell. Absolutely despicable act and it seems no one is outraged he got off free, but rather more concerned with his lack of suspension.

What you guys are forgetting is that whether or not the NFL saw the video or not -- Rice explained "without sugarcoating" everything that happened. He admitted to punching her so hard that it knocked her down into a railing that contributed to knocking her unconscious. It BAFFLES me that even given the explanation being rather on par with what he said, that he got two games. And the Ravens held a press conference in support of him? Yikes...

If that was me, or most of you, in the video, I'd be fired by lunch time. Why not Rice? Heck with a suspension.
your boss would fire you for a domestic dispute? under what grounds?

I see--so it was fine to be associated with Rice when all we had were vivid descriptions about him knocking his wife out cold with a punch--but now that there's VIDEO...

I can't really tell if this is a joke or not
im not kidding.. was just having the discussion with HR people, they cant imagine how you could get fired from most jobs for this. If you were union it would not be a question you wouldnt get touched. perhaps high profile stuff where you had some morals clause, but not any regular employee, let alone if no charges really got filed.

If there was a video of me knocking my gf out with a devastating haymaker, I would 1,000% be fired by my employer. It's not a "domestic dispute." It's a dude knocking out his gf and dragging her limp, unconscious body out of an elevator in a public place. Additionally, since NYS is an employment-at-will state, they could fire me for just about anything they damn well please. And I'm not in a unionized job, so I wouldn't be able to run and hide behind the union after I beat the crap out of my gf.

so every one who gets in a fight gets fired or only the ones who win or beat up defenseless people?

I don't think how hard he hit her was what 'baffled' me (meaning, we all saw the footage of her unconscious on the ground -- this is the real world, not the movies, it was pretty obvious without seeing the elevator footage that he had hit her full force). What's shocking is that it was framed to make his wife sound so much worse than she was. She might have tried to slap him with an open palm (or maybe she put her finger or hand in his face -- I didn't really want to watch the video twice to figure it out), which isn't right, but having her apologize in front of the national media like she was going at him with a baseball bat as a cause of this is terrible.
