Grade the Big East so far

It has nothing to do with that. I don't care that he hates UConn. As a Syracuse fan, I would be shocked if he didn't.

What I don't understand is how this guy hates the Big East so much. I'm not questioning the move, I'm not questioning whether UConn would leave now (we would), I just don't get the animosity in every single one of su2nasa's post about the BE/ACC.

Most Big East fans have hated the ACC forever and now that you're leaving I can see embracing the new conference, just seems weird to pull a total 180 and hate on the old conference that provided you so many memories the past 30 years. That's all.

Not once in my posts have I said anything about hating UConn. I really couldn't care less about UConn.

As for the Big East, my disdain is a direct result of its mismanagement and the consequences from forcing itself to raid the mid-major ranks of Conference USA to put a bandaid on its incompetence. Old habits die hard for a lot of people here who have grown up on Big East basketball, but this is a shadow of the Big East's former self. Louisville, Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, South Florida, and now SMU, Houston, Central Florida, Memphis. The Big East is now ConferenceUSA with some remnants of the original members.

On the football side, which make no mistake drives the bus, it's down to the only original members are Rutgers and Temple. And outside of that it's ConferenceUSA and the Mountain West. The Big East, through it's own incompetence is an unstable mess, a conglomerate of mid-majors assimilated to keep it in business. This is why we're abandoning ship with Pitt, WVU ran for the door, and UConn and Rutgers have been openly campaigning for a spot in the ACC.

We're moving to a stable conference that provides greater financial benefits and schools that play in the same time zone, up and down the Atlantic coast, all while the Big East left-behinds will fester playing games across the continent between teams have been banded together by duct tape.

Will people miss the tradition of the Big East Tournament at MSG and playing games against teams we have for 30 years, yes. The great traditions like playing at MSG, playing Georgetown, will carry on. But this isn't the Big East that we built anymore.

So screw the Big East, we've asked for a divorce, all we're waiting on is for us to be able to move out.

And if UConn had the chance, you'd leave too. But you don't, so cling to the Big East, going forward, it's all you have.

Out of curiosity, after the 2003 raid how would have you ran the Big East? Considering how mismanaged you claim it to be and through sheer incompetence the conference screwed itself over, what was the clear solution?

I would never have invited DePaul and Marquette. There was no reason they needed to be added because the bball side of things were strong. The addition of those schools simply showed how screwed up the BE was. The bball-onlies didnt care that they were diluting their pay-outs so long as they could get more votes on their side. Two football programs would have been nice...even as football-only members. But no.

I don't necessarily disagree. My point is mainly, the addition of Marquette and Depaul didn't make or break the Big East. The lack of traditional powers in football did. Since there were none of those powers to be had post 2003, I just don't see where the Big East made this huge mistake. Say, even if Temple, TCU, etc. were added instead of Marquette and Depaul, would the Big East be really that much better off?

Letting the 2003 raid happen in and of itself was a direct result of mismanagement. Schools looking for greener pastures doesn't happen for no reason.

I have too. And have, out of habit, rooted hard against ACC schools. I am going to be a conflicted dude the next few seasons.

I'm conflicted too...I'd like the BE to do well but actually SU gains more financially by the ACC doing well. SU very well could be leaving a nice little nest egg for undeserving schools by doing well this tourney. Your UConn fanboys created a "root for matrix" I found pathetically laughable. Only if those morons realized Cuse winning actually makes UConn money.

Fair enough SU2NASA. I'm guessing you would have been in favor of a split before the raid?

I was under the impression it was all money that caused the split.

For example Miami was loosing money after winning a few football championships, that says it all right there.

The big east right now is way behind the big 10, SEC and ACC in revenue was it that way in 2003?

Pitt Syracuse and WVU did not carry the football load in the NBE when they were gave the chance.
We lost our top 10 football rankings and football is the money maker.

Everyone in the big east wants us to lose. Why would we cheer for the big east when everyone in the big is giddy over our "demise?"

^^^^^^^ This

The thing that blows my freakin' mind is that, if you go on ANY Big East's team board they are actively rooting against Syracuse, and are generally pretty venomous in doing so. Pretty much any Syracuse fans I know that went to road games have plenty of horror stories of fans going way beyond appropriate levels of banter. That anyone would be surprised that Syracuse fans might be a little pissed off about that and be rooting against Big East teams as a result is a fairly ignorant world view.

Considering everybody had the Big 10 as the best conference this season I'd have to give the Big East an A right now. If Cincy wins it's hands down an A plus as 2 Big East teams would be guaranteed to make the F4.

Felt like USF had that game today. The technical on the dunk absolutely destroyed any momentum they had. I think the dunk put them up 4 and then they gave up a 10-0 run including 4 straight FT misses. I would say they definitely disappointed because they were clearly good enough to win. GTown? What can you say? That was horrible. Marquette is looking really good, I think they have the best chance to continue on.
Horrible?
ANY G-town loss is WONDERFUL!!!!!
Any time, anywhere.

I LOOOOOOOAAAAAATHE G-town!

And they're nowhere to be found now, are they?
While we play for a spot in the Final 4.

Hahhahahahahahhaha.
SUCK EGGS G-town, SUCK EGGS!

Otherwise the BE is proving how good it is.
My bracket has us in the Final 4 along with Marquette.

Florida may have a little say in that.

I guess I meant that we took down 2 of the 3 remaining Big 10 teams so that gives Big East an A. Misspoke on the 2 to the F4 thing forgetten Marq needed to beat Florida as well. 2 in the Elite 8 though is no doubt an A though since it came over the Big10's best.
