Great article on mess at Louisville

Very good article.

If anything, Jurich was underpaid for what he transformed Louisville into. He was a master negotiator. Just amazed how he finessed the city into building the Yum Center with taxpayer money and getting the keep 90% of the profits.

No matter how hard the hammer comes down, they'll be in a better place than they would have been without his shady dealings when the dust settles.

I wish the article got more into how the fallout will affect Yum! financially. You would have to expect unsuccessful push back by politicians to restructure to give the appearance of a separation between sport and state. In the end taxpayers will be held to paying operating costs for the 25 years. Funny to think some UK fans are footing the bill!

Lol. It's Kentucky. There is no separation.

Boeheim made that point about Jurich and how great of a job he did building UL athletics. He said something like people can demonize him now if they want to but he did a lot to grow that athletic department and was universally though of as a very successful AD.

This is more faux outrage from the media and university non-athletic personnel who continue the charade that academics come first. College sports is a business, and like all business environments things can get out of hand if unchecked.

In general, I was surprised how cavalier and laissez-faire Boeheim has come across whenever he has been asked about this and other scandals with the coaches/assistants/agents. These are BIG deals, shameful, and not good for the sport, IMO.

I think the back story was Louisville built the YUM Center to help lure an NBA team. The Cards were a huge beneficiary of this.

Still not a valid excuse.
A well run business has controls in place to prevent things getting out of hand.

Yep. Two factors: one, there's a certain ethically complacent streak there. Second, Boeheim's a loyal guy and wouldn't want to appear to throw any colleagues, friends, or friends of friends under the bus. He'll err on the side of defending the indefensible before doing that.
