Great, great win

A very great win!
You can’t even imagine how good it feels (for me) to watch any NC fb team lose.
But when it’s the 'cuse, in their house, and I get to see Doeren's face on the big screen losing, man, we’re talking huge shite eat'n grin here lol!
Thank you Fran Brown and team for making my week!

2 plays.
2 TDs.

Yeah, and on the first one, the receiver clearly stepped out of bounds. The defender put a hand on him, but did not "force" him out of bounds. It took place 2 steps later. That TD should not have stood.

On the 2nd one, the guy in the secondary "bit" as the QB scrambled, letting the receiver get behind him. That was a mistake, but it was also pretty close as to whether the QB was over the line of scrimmage. The refs tried like crazy to give NC State the game in that 4th quarter.

And yet some people were complaining about us not having to play any games in the State of North Carolina during hoops season. It's a blessing that we don't have to have local refs. And that damn woman on the ACC halftime crew - she kept calling NC State "WE" !!!! Homer shtt like I can't stand.

When you consider what HC Fran Brown has accomplished in about 6 months; this away win is truly amazing!

It's easier to get the kids on the bus when they see actual results, like with HCFB, 5-1 record, A team that wins in spite of what others think.
For sure. I would also say that if you want to build a winner more quickly, you have to move on from folks who don't get in line ASAP. It's a fit thing. They'll catch on better somewhere else. You don't want to have to show the results right away, because they may not be there so quickly no matter what you do with what you have.

Disclaimer, I still wish we were in the pre-transfer-portal days and developing players. Hoping for good things from the under-the-radar NY guys we are taking this class. That said, Fran can go get what he wants, so the leashes are short.

Agreed. Fran saw something in these kids and did not run them off. He was willing to work with them. He may run them off after the season if they do not get on board, He has them now and is working on them, that is the important thing. This shows other players that they can make a mistake and redeem themselves, too. There are consequences for behaviors, if they are egregious enough or cumulative, then cutting them loose is the right decision.

Given the simple logistics of being a first-year coach and dealing with a roster you didn't choose, I think this year is the most permissive/forgiving that you will see from Fran. Every year it gets easier to push guys out because (probably) it's less each year, until you reach some steady-state after a couple years.

McDonald is a liability, imo. He’s struggles when out in space against P4 athletes, and he’s missed several key tackles in 1v1 (Georgia Tech qb most egregiously but another big one against UNLV rb). He seems to get to the right spaces. Had hoped that Heard or ZMG would show a little more with Wax out
Hear ya, but he did cause that key NCS fumble.

Good luck finding a worse undefeated team than Pitt. Might as well make it three in a row and then come home to a sell out.
Army and Navy say hold my beer

I mean great stories and I want to see both do well...but I'll be very surprised to see them ranked with legitimate schedules...I will make a prediction. I expect at least one will be ranked by the last game of the season. Each really only have Notre Dame as legitimate competition. Navy also hosts Tulane who is pretty good this year. So 3 total opponents left worthy of a Top 25 team's schedule.

Wins so far
Army:
Lehigh
@FAU
Rice
@Temple
@Tulsa
UAB

Navy:
Bucknell
Temple
Memphis
@UAB
@Air Force

If you dive into the schedules played so far really only Memphis is a VG win. The AAC is very weak this year.

ACC Postgame Host:”Kyle is this what you envisioned when you came to Cuse?”

Kyle: “Yeah, this is exactly what I envisioned”

Warms my heart to hear. I still have to pinch myself sometimes.
If Cuse has the $$$, hopefully another McCord is out there with 1 or 2 years of eligibility. I'd prefer to internally grow our QBs but Jakari is Frosh and Carney has not arrived yet.

Love the thought. Agree Pitt shouldn't be undefeated, but they will be the best team we've played. Tough, run the ball, and rush the passer.
I think UNLV is better tbh. More dynamic on offense, contain Reid and Pitt struggles.

Bottom line is that I don't know, but... Even though SU's 6 games in, I believe Coach Brown might be experimenting, so to speak. I think there have been some collective gasps as a result of some cause and effect situations that were far less than productive, to be kind. He's closer to understanding and mastering the chemistry that is the SU football team, than he was, say... 9 months ago. I've (experimentally) skated on CNY ponds in late fall or early winter and didn't always go home dry... This Coach Fran Brown is winning football games in his first year out, and he's not going home cold and wet - and I'm good with that. It's pretty good; getting to look ahead the way we're looking ahead right now. Positive attitudes and healthy trains of thought... okay by me. Cheers!

Yes, but I think we also need to be realistic.

McCord has been everything we could hope for and even better than advertised.

It helps an awful lot when a special player is running your offense.

Absolutely. He is undefeated if an arm is 2 inches lower on a PD. He played terribly in that game for his standards and we still should have won.

Having a legit QB is everything, and so much "other stuff" can be covered up because of it.

Spot on! Has anyone ever heard of a former assistant praising Schiano?

(Earmuffs)

Fran was on Dusty & Danny in the morning last week and they asked what coach influenced him the most. He mentioned Addazio, Rhule, Smart, Muschamp, but settled on Schiano being the one.

So IROC shouldn't mind us stealing his '25 recruits?

All is fair in love and war and aholes.

Served that one up on a tee for Millhouse.

Well, you learn both things you want to do and things you don't want to do once you're the boss from former bosses, and one thing Fran learned from Schiano is you need to run a real offense.

If only he said that! That is genious.

UNLV is going to open up 4000 seats in the upper section for Boise St. I expect they'll beat our attendance mark.
