Greg Fahey: New GM

Syracuse coach Gerry McNamara is expected to hire Greg Fahey of Hampton University to fill the role of general manager for the Orange’s basketball program, according to a source close to the program.

Fahey is currently in his second year at Hampton where he is the associate head coach and general manager for Hampton coach Ivan Thomas.

Fahey previously worked as a special consultant to Ed Cooley at Georgetown, as an assisant at Siena College and as an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson.

A 2013 graduate of Marist College, Fahey got his start in coaching at New Jersey powerhouse St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark. He was the head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at St. Benedict’s for three years.

In that same time period, Fahey spent four years on the Nike EYBL circuit as an assistant coach for the Albany City Rocks for three years and one year as the club’s 16-Under head coach.

“Greg Fahey enters his second season with the program. Fahey has been on Thomas’s staff since the inaugural campaign. After the Pirates' successful first year, he will add the General Manager title to the Associate Head Coach role. Fahey has experience in the NIL space working with Coach Ed Cooley and Mark Fox during his tenure with Georgetown.

In his additional title at HU, Fahey will take on a pivotal role in roster construction and cap management leveraging his network both domestically and internationally. Fahey’s ability to identify trends will help keep Hampton at the forefront of college basketball's changing dynamics.

Before arriving to Washington D.C., Fahey spent four seasons at Siena serving as assistant coach and director of basketball operations. Fahey helped develop eight all-conference players including two MAAC Player of the year award winners in Manny Camper and Denver Nuggets Guard Jalen Pickett. Interestingly enough quite a few teams have their GM as also an assistant coach and quite a few are not previously affiliated with the NBA. This applies to both Michigan and UConn as an example…

With RB focused on alumni engagement on top of player engagement, the relationships Brunt, Daly and Lee bring and having Melo around the program, a dual role like this isn’t a reach or going against the grain…

Some more details here in this announcement would have been helpful not just a resume.
