GT Postgame

With the season on the line I don’t know how you let a team down 20 out effort their way back into the game. Offense went back to iso ball with those without the ball looking like they were doing a walk through of the offense. On defense they were getting beat off the dribble and no help defense.

I think Autry's reaching the end with JJ. Watch the game back close there were a few moments he straight up didn't talk to him as he benched him.

I think he just doesn't trust Kiyan enough yet late in games, but it might be coming soon. Too bad Kiyan didn't have just one more year of getting stronger because he could just a natural clutch guy while JJ is the opposite.
I’ll believe it when I see it. First 2 ACC games Starling is 4 for 17 with 6 turnovers. But at least he’s averaging 31 minutes/game.

Yeah so that was poor coaching late and awful officiating as well. Refs decided to call it much different the last 8-10 minutes.

JJ would have owned a huge part of this loss next to Red if we didn’t pull it out. He was a disaster late.
Agree, they were straight mugging and body-checking Freeman. Ndongo committed like 7-8 fouls easy in the game. Number 5 came real early with an over the back over Freeman, but the refs refused to call it.

It was a road conference win.

We looked better -for much of the game- then we have all year.

I actually saw signs of coaching! Specifically how we attacked their zone.

Why was JJ in for the last 10? minutes of the game when Kyian was obviously playing better? Senior leadership? I didn't see any evidence of that.

Donnie does make a difference. Is it enough to overcome the coaching?

Yeah everything about the last 10 mins was exactly why Red isn’t cut out for this. If GT had their big man we don’t have the first half we did and we lose this game for sure.
Prob right but what ifs. I'm not sure how we can take our foot off the gas on both ends for entire stretches of games. Score the most points we have in a half and then we have an Iowa St like 2nd half meltdown almost.

It was hovering around 15 for a long time which is fine. We turned off the motor and stopped playing.

I will give Red free coaching tips --- Your best player is Donnie Freeman. Your best offensive player is Donnie Freeman. On offense, your best offensive player must touch the ball, and you should run your offense through him every time down the court. Also, under 1 minute to play up 6 and they aren't fouling, and you don't get the ball to Freeman in the post, that should be grounds for immediate firing. Terrible

10 point victory on the road. Easily beat the spread. Most first half points this year. Held GT to 39% from the field, 22% from 3. Outrebounded Tech by 10. Anybody happy?
GT is the second worst team in the ACC. We beat GT by the same amount as Drake, and drake played them at full strength

If you told me before the game that we would win by 10 I would have kissed you on the face. Yet when the game ended I still felt very annoyed. Sports are weird.
You need to change your profile pic cuz it makes me think I need to go back and watch The Wire for the 20th time.

Worst 10 point conference win ever.

We are not capable of playing 40 minutes.

We don’t look like we are prepared in critical situations.

We never dive on the floor at all.

Thank god for Donnie Freeman.
I wish I could like this post 100 times! We showed absolutely NO LIFE out there! NONE!! Once we got up 20, we went into lazy mode matador D and no boxing out. And out turnovers were all about their hustle and our stupidity. Dribbling into double teams with no outlets?! Seriously?!

I don’t know how anyone can defend Autry at this point when we still don’t have a functioning offense. All this talent is being wasted because he can’t put in a few simple offensive sets. We push the ball up the court only to park it at the top of the key for 15 seconds. And we STILL have guys cutting all game without anyone screening defenders. We saw this at the end of the JB era. Why do we refuse to put a body on a defender and run a proper pick and roll?

I agree with what you're saying and implying, but our opponents know this too.

Nobody will be happy this year, regardless of the outcome. The idea that Red needs to go is already entrenched and any hiccup will be another bullet in the gun.

I’m not saying Red shouldn’t be on the hot seat; he should be, but he will not be given any kind of leash or grace because most have decided they already gave him plenty of leash and he used it up.

Did anybody really think this game was over when we were up by 20? Don’t we know better?
-obviously Donnie was terrific. 27 points and nine rebounds is pretty nice. And there still is room for improvement. He still needs to go to the basket stronger and not fade away. He lost a couple of rebounds that were in his hands. But this kid is a game changer for our team. God do I wish we had him for the whole season.
-George was so solid in the first half and then he was so awful on the second half. The free throws were huge. And in the first half he took care of the ball and did not force bad shots. But in the second half his turnovers were just atrocious. Imagine trying to force the ball to Souare?
-Kingz had perhaps his worst game of the season.
-despite horrific defense, two for 10 shooting and two turnovers (not counting his three missed three-pointers, which are effectively turnovers), JJ played more minutes than Betsey and Kiyan combined. The play when he went to the basket instead of running clock showed that he is either stupid or selfish. Either way isn’t particularly good.
-Kiyan on the other hand looked as comfortable as he has looked all season in the first half. I can’t fathom how he did not play more in the second half, particularly when we knew that Georgia Tech was going to foul. He should have been subbed in for either Kyle or JJ.
-at the end of the day every single one of us would have taken a 10 point win on the road before the game started. So there’s that. But the lack of poise and effort on defense we showed to almost give up a 20 point lead makes it hard to be particularly optimistic that we can win close games against good teams.
