You are a lost cause with your narrative and clearly don’t understand what you are watching. To which you have openly admitted you don’t watch any other teams but SU and only look at box scores. Keep hammering away that Kyle is the problem while the guard play loses us leads and games. Kyle is a big reason we aren’t sitting here with 3 more losses.

I agree. I thought it was a great move. I also it was good when he was trying to wait for the under 4 timeout and realized he couldn't and called it when they cut it to 6.

Eh, an exaggeration. Kyle is only about 6-7, but he's the 2nd leading shot blocker in the country.
He doesn't have the bulk to defend a 240-250 lb guy in the low post, but we recognized that and Donnie frequently doubled Ngongo in the 2nd half.

So, they tried to address that. But he had 3 blocks, at least, and close to 10 rebounds again. So it's not like he was a total liability. He is who he is. That's why I'm glad we have Soare as his back up. He plays pretty good defense, is pretty physical, and blocks shots, too. And he's a legit 6-9.

It would be nice if Diawara was able to play a 4 minute shift, because he's about 240. But having Sadiq White as a backup big is a pretty good option. Betsey has some bulk about him, too. We have 4+ big guys who can contribute. That's pretty good. I think this team is primed for a run, if everybody stays healthy and keeps their heads screwed on right.

if kyle is going to play center - (which he is obviously is) he needs to start taking more of a proactive approach with donnie out there...last 2 games kyle has been passive and donnie is also not good defensively...the combo of the 2 is not working defensively imo

yeah and talking about betsey or donnie or even suaore as capable of guarding opposing centers is silly

sadiq is a wing three. size no mass . but with tremendous hops. and no jumper. much like the legend stevie thompson. he was a scholar athlete and among our best defenders ever . averaged about 18 his last two seasons. so how do get him the ball ?

breakaway dunks and over the top slams. he's not the defender stevie was yet but he certainly has the elevation . you have a weapon. but do you know how to use it ?

Of course I watch the games. And of course Sadiq is not a back up center, but when people get in foul trouble, the PFs can be asked to guard centers. That's basketball, like forever.

And of course he's had his minutes cut since Donnie came back, but before that he scored double figures in 5 of the previous 7 games, and 9 against Kansas in the game before that. That is while he was playing only 21 minutes a game, with 45 rebounds in 8 games, playing only half the game. He also blocked 8 shots in those 8 games.

I think he played really well in Donnie's absence. Now, Red has to figure out new rotations.

If you put Donnie or Betsey there, and Kyle in the low post, we would be so much more dangerous on offense.

Rewatched the dumpy end of the game. Was a 15 point lead at the 8:22 min mark. We had already gotten a lil sloppy but nothing to thumb our noses at up 15 points on the road we’ll take all day. In 5 mins almost exactly it was 5 points.

A lot to unpack but there were 2 big problem I saw.

1. We stopped passing and moving obvi. For those 5 mins we had two guys parked in each corner. Kingz, Kiyan or Betsey then a few times Donnie on the perimeter. They barely moved and worse None of them even thought about taking a 3. Just moving and making one 3 pointer prob keeps the GT defense from clogging the paint with Kyle and Donnie so much and making George and JJ drive with nowhere to go. Nate and JJ have to find them a shot and at the same time those guys need to at least move a little. I know we’re not a great 3 point shooting team but taking a 3 would’ve been better than what we did.

2. Donnie got hacked 2-3 times really bad with no whistle and it took him out of his game on both ends. GT basically just upped the intensity and we didn’t do the same. The refs put GT on the FT line 8 times in those 3 mins. Some of that was on us but then when they finally called a few whistles the other way we came back around.

Really bad run those 5 mins. Just needed one guy to step up and no one could when they took freeman off his game. I’m not sure there’s a quick fix. Just need a next man up mentality and can’t play scared even for a few mins.

It’s even worse when Souare gets it up top. Either way it kills 5 to 15 seconds each time. It puts us at a significant advantage because nothing good can happen.

Yes, if he is outsized, then you need to front the post. Donnie was coming over to give Kyle weakside help in the 2nd half. You absolutely have to do that if you front a post player. Otherwise, if they connect on the pass, it's an uncontested dunk.

People say that it drags the opposing 5 out of the lane, which opens it up for drives. Of course, I can't recall a single time that actually happened. Probably because even if I were HC I'd see on film that Kyle is incapable of doing anything on the perimeter.

Not only is it strategically baffling, but our execution is always sloppy and half-assed.

On game rewatch- Kyle was responsible for only 4 of Ndongos points all night. 4. Yet somehow he’s not good enough inside lol. This is why gametape matters as does realizing Ndongo got most of his on put backs off the break, against other defenders and off passes when a GT guard beat their man.

Nearly every game Kyle’s numbers haven’t been as stellar it’s been other guys struggling and CC points at him and center play. Guard play and FTs have been the cause of our losses. Hands down… oh and that’s just the argument position wise because the coaching aspect is numbers 1-5 in the reasons for losses.

No, he's not. Maybe if you project him to where he would have to play in the NBA, then sure, I agree with that. But right now, he's like a freshman Terrence Roberts - 6-9, athletic, bouncy, a bit too emotional, tries too many threes, but he has more toughness than a lot of other guys in the rotation.

when he adds some muscle and tops 200 pounds maybe he'll grow into a p4. but he's too scrawny right now. he's like a young damone brown. a twig who will get pushed around underneath until he becomes a branch.first off size-wise he's a mismatch for most threes. secondly kyle and freeman are likely gone. sadiq white aint going pro. best to keep feeding him minutes to keep this guy in the program. cuz with a little more mass he's going to be awesome. ala damone brown. white kyle freeman frontline. that's my preference.
