Happy 60th anniversary

There have been many bad snowstorms in my lifetime but nothing compares to the Blizzard of 66.

One of the two doors in our house was snowed in for a week or so.

We could actually walk up a giant drift in our backyard to the second floor roof. And that is how my dad went to work and came back for a few days.

Another giant drift gave us easy access to our garage roof. We had lots of fun waiting for school to open again.
Uphill both ways, right?

The Blizzard of '66. The snow was up to the roof of our ranch house. Tunnels were constructed at my house. Quite a feat when I consider how bundled up my Mom had us. My husband had to go out a second story window to gain access to the first floor of his home.

I'm happy to see the snow falling down here in NC this morning. It's covering up the ice covered sidewalk of death and providing traction so I can take the dog outside.

I gave up shoveling about 4 years ago. My back just won’t take it anymore. Being a broke kid was quite a motivator when I was young though, I had a nice market on my street shoveling walks and mowing lawns. Didn’t like ice at all though. I’m a pro unpaid couch sitter now. 😀
I was out shoveling the melting slush/ice off an uphill portion of our driveway this week. Afterwards my knees told me that they didn't want to do that again.

Ah yes, there's nothing young people love more than hearing about weather from decades ago. ;)

Seriously, it's amazing how blizzards stick in our minds more than just about any other major weather event. Cool pics.

Blizzard of 93 was the one for me. ‘66 was before my time.

I just remember having to shovel like every other hour. I think my mom just wanted me out of the house haha.

Did some crazy jumps sledding at Virginia Ave Park in JC though with all the snow.
