Happy birthday, Syracusefan.com

Was Syracusefan.com the only choice, or did you have a final list you chose from?

Sweet. I will have a beer tonight to celebrate.

Igorrocks.com and Bluecurtainrules.net were taken.

How about MantoMan.edu. Although when I type that out, it doesn't look appropriate. How about ManvsZone.edu

This year, National Championship celebration. Next year, Bar Mitzvah celebration.

We talked about

Bonelessyard.com
notsyracuse.com

Seriously, I think the other ideas discussed were names like syracusesports.com, susports.com, orangesports.com, etc.

Yay! I miss the old days before all these punk kids infested the forum. :)

Let's bring back curt b. to celebrate. He and cto can kiss and make up after all these years.

HB, and thanks to Tom, Joyce, Bees, Jake, Fish, etc.

Indeed--it's impossible to overstate the time and energy donated by the creators, the mods, and the stalwart posters. It's a great place to call home. Thanks!

I shudder to think about the hours I've spent on this site over those 10 years!

Thanks to all who give us this forum, it's pretty freakin' awesome.

This site has been a godsend to me during a time I have really needed it. For that I am grateful to all of those that had a hand in establishing the domain and to all of those that have made it a prime location for all SU fans whether obsessed or casual, old or young. Each one of you that post here have made the site what it is. I'm not sure what attracted the brilliant among you nor am I sure how the demented among you found it, but all have been welcome here, and to me that's what I appreciate the most.

The domain was registered on February 8, 2000.

Happy Birthday & thanks to all the founders and great posters who make up this great (and sometimes dysfunctional) community!!! How appropriate it is on the day of our game with the most hated hoops rival.

I would've guessed it was older and am drawing a blank about the previous years.

I recall when I first "discovered" that people talked about syracuse hoops on the internet, it had to be around 94 since I recall being out of college and poor and worried about how much it would cost to dial in and stay on too long. Before then, one of my fraternity bro's dad was involved with AAU (though I think he just coached his son's HS team, not sure if AAU) and used to have these monthly magazines about recruiting and he used to send them up when he finished reading. I recall one of them talking about Marbury when he was a frosh in HS and how Syr was on the radar. So, when I first went online, that one guy's website focused on Marbury's recruiting, I was hooked!

There were the AOL boards and another Cuse website that someone ran that talked about Cuse recruiting. I wonder if that guy is a poster here? I remember being amazed that you didn't have to wait a month to get a recruiting story in the paper. On AOL, I remember my wife (gf at time) looking and saying "IthacaMatt" is on all of these posts, does everyone has their town in front? I remember others for different reasons, Bees because he was the first 'insider' guy, Igor (was Bonn, would get kicked off, come back as Bonn1, then Bonn2, etc) because he was so negative and challenged others to fight, Cherie because she had the name cheriehoop and I realized there were women die-hards and she tried to play peace maker, etc. I remember Bees introducing PeteCalvin as a die-hard fine, too, but don't recall when and where Jake came from, or if Joyce was around pre-Syr.fan

I think everyone used syracuse.com after AOL but I don't think it was the entire time between AOL and Syr.fan? Was there anything else??

Anyway, this site makes me less-productive, so I'm not so sure I should really thank anyone. Seriously, however, thanks to all...

An SU victory over the Hoyas is a great birthday present. Thank you to the admins and the original motley crew that started the board.

I think my favorite part about the board (Syracusefan.com) was my least favorite when I started. For lack of a better term it feels a bit like a neighborhood. 4 or 5 user names ago, and over a decade ago, when I first lurked it was pretty intimidating that everyone seemed to know each other and I always dreaded the idea that I might be subjected to the 25 responses like “Man lands on Moon” that would inevitably follow a repetitive post.

But after awhile it kind of what sets the place apart – the other forums I post on have tons more members and they always just devolve into a madhouse (imagine tons of Igor vs. Mantonio type personality battles) This never really has. Plus, I got an awesome lithograph once when someone (forget who – sorry! Ragman maybe?) made all those DVD’s of GMAC’s insane BET. U just don’t get high quality lithographs like that so cheap on other forums.

Probably wasted far too much time here, but it’s been fun. Thanks to all.

Oh, and no thread is complete without this comment - this thread is why we need a payside!
