Happy Birthday to Us!

My first memories of this board are the hilarious riffs on the Chuck Norris meme after Paul Harris' commitment. Since then, I've lurked on this board nearly every day, and its added a lot to my life and especially my enjoyment of college basketball in general, and SU in particular. I rarely post because I can't add much to the tremendous basketball knowledge and insight the regular posters bring. But I will post to express my appreciation to everyone that makes this board what it is. THANK YOU.

Man, I wish I knew about this forum back in the early days. I spent way too much time in the cesspool of the early day Syracuse.com forums before finally discovering this place back in the Scout days. Cheers to 20 more years!

Not kidding, this board literally changed my life. I was a die hard fan in my living room. I didn't make the effort to travel down to games, even from up 81 at Fort Drum. Would just watch in bars with buddies. Heck, I hardly traveled anywhere at all.

Now, after finding this place.. I spend pretty much all my monies traveling to Cuse games from Alaska, meeting up with old friends from here and always meeting new friends. You've made me feel like a celebrity on more than one occasion, just for being a drunk guy who sat on a plan for a day or so.

Okay, Adam, I have to ask: did you pull that plan out of your butt?

I was walking through the Vietnam Memorial in DC the day after the Gtown game. Wearing Orange of course. We passed another group wearing Orange, and do the whole "Go Cuse, Go Orange" thing. As we got a few feet past eachother, I swear I heard one of them call out "Cusetroop". I was hungover, and didn't want to be rude in the memorial but tossed a wink and a thumbs up I think. Forgot to ask here who that was.

Thanks for everything, folks. It's been a wild ride and I can't wait for the next adventure!
well...you are a legend...embrace it bro...

It’s been over 30 years since I last lived in Syracuse and I could not possibly have maintained my level of fandom without this forum feeding the beast!!!

It is really a strange, but wonderful community.

Thank you to everyone that makes this site click. We have had our rants, disagreements and suffered through some brutal times (especially on the football side), but all in all, I have enjoyed my time here. Since the move away from TOS, I've had 3 kids with another on the way. It's like I've grown up here.

If I could just figure out how to rejoin the pay side... ;)

“We’re going to go to a tailgate with people you met on the internet?,” said my wife, prior to the Tennessee game in 1998.

It was AOL back then, and Bees was sparring with Central Florida wannabees on the football side, if my memory is correct.

We went, and keep coming back, every chance we can, while raising two boys in Northeast Ohio.

While I lurk most of the time, especially on the hoops side, it’s been a great ride. Thanks CTO, Jake, Bees, even Fishy (UConn fandom notwithstanding), and so many others.

Happy Birthday Syracusefan.com!

that would have been futballguru.

How did folks find this on AOL back in the day? I wish I had, but didnt find it until the one before Scout(2 before this, if I recall correctly).

Not that I would EVER question Mrs. CC, but guessing we won you over!

This is the same beautiful bride who once said, “I’m never wearing orange.” Now the basement is orange. We have two orange cars. And half the family wardrobe is orange.

it brings to mind the thread on the football side about out-kicking the coverage. Yep. Did that, and she’s been all in for a long, long time.

But enough about us ... :)

This board is like family. Thanks so much to all of you who run the show. The community that you have created is truly an amazing, diverse, and eclectic gang. Best fans on the planet! Happy Birthday!

i have a list ready Forza, just advise if this is the right thread to drop it in and ask people to leave for good...

im thinking its not...
I think that the problem with our approach would be that the number of members online would never reach double digits:

That would kill advertising interest...

Happy Birthday to us! It’s hard to believe, but syracusefan.com is 20 years old today. We’ve been together through the National Championship run, the Bernie Fine fiasco, probation, the Mike Hopkins saga, four athletic directors, five football coaches … and one basketball coach. People who joined us as students … have long since graduated, got married and became parents.

We’ve seen some wonderful (and not so wonderful) posters come and go (Raoul Duke, Viva Peru and Beth come to mind on the “wonderful” side). And some posters have left us on a sadly permanent basis (such as Orangeyes, Boca Doug and CaliCuse).

Sincere thanks to all the dedicated admins and mods who keep these forums running on a reasonably sane basis (it’s harder than you realize) …. And thanks, especially, to all the posters who keep making this place interesting and informative

Thank You Joyce and all the Admins & Mods for keeping this board alive and well. I too remember the early AOL days..good times.
Let's Go Orange!! !!!

How many of us have had a similar conversation with our spouses or children? I’ve had that one multiple times. Started with a hoops game where I finally got to meet Cowtown and his lovely wife, continued with bringing my son to Fine Mess tailgate, but really culminated in Alaska. “You’re going to drive 5 hours to hang out and fish for a weekend with someone you’ve never met in person?” Yup.

It’s been a blast, but someone owes my employers an explanation.
