Recruiting
"We'll talk about it," Whitehead told MaxPreps. "We want to show people out here what East Coast basketball has to offer. It's a big game for us. They're No. 4 or 6 or whatever in the country and we're trying to move up."
The final is sure to evoke memories of the schools' epic final in the 1994 Torrey Pines Tournament in California. Mater Dei won 92-77 despite 48 points by Stephon Marbury to offset 45 by Shea Cotton.

A slow start cost Lincoln a shot at a statement victory and holiday tournament title. The Railsplitters were outscored by 11 points in the opening quarter and fell to California powerhouse Mater Dei, 76-69, in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic Invitational Division championship game in Palm Springs, Calif.
Shaquille Davis led previously undefeated Lincoln (9-1) with 17 points, Isaiah Whitehead had 12 and Tafari Whittingham 11. For Mater Dei, ranked sixth in the country by USA Today, UNLV-bound Kaitlin Reinhardt scored 20 points and Stanley Johnson had 18

Syracuse Mention
We all picked Syracuse to defeat Marshall, but we didn't think the Thundering Herd would stay within six points of a team now ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Dec. 31, 2011 2:07 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - No love for Syracuse in the phone booth
After a moment of silence for former Big East commissioner Dave Gavitt, a fan in the upper deck of the Verizon Center yelled “Syracuse sucks!” loud enough to be heard throughout the building, which drew laughs from many in attendance.

4. State tourney questions
The State Boys Basketball Tournament was held at the Civic Center last March for the 31st time, but there was no second weekend. The Federation Tournament had moved to Albany.
And now local organizers could be in a fight to keep the remaining state public high school tournament. The Carrier Dome in Syracuse may get the tourney when it goes up for bid next year.
