Harvard Gameday...

For our wings on faceoffs think would be nice idea if they run some practice drills of 50/50 gbs n instead of trying pick ball up with traffic learn how to kick it or push it to space then pick it up. To many times go to pick it up in traffic n dudes just waiting to stick check it out. Push it out to space n as said then foot it n go to pick it up. Either way wings need to get better.

No way in battle n wings already there waiting should faceoff guy be able to go forward or even baxk without someone in his face. Just overall need to be way smarter in all aspects of the game. Also i mention that on D we have to punish guys or watch out for guys sitting on crease waiting for rebounds. Harvard scored 3-4 of rebounds vs colgate n then scored 2-3 today. Gotta take body there n push them out or box them out.

Also thought mccool on the last two goals if he came out fast n layed a check could have not been goals. Specially the long pole who was right on top of him come out n lay a hit instead. Most guys won’t expect that . I’ve been blown up many times by that. Thinking it’s just me n goalie n out no where goalie lays a body check.

I never had good feeling bout this game. Now think i bout it vs maryland did kinda feel like it was gonna be diff vs Maryland. But this game always felt like harvard was the fav either way. I think syracuse is the better more talented team. I also think Syracuse beat themselves more than harvard won it themselves. Mean had tons of good looks n just didn’t hit cage or bury it. Geb had wide open look on emo n gets stuff as felt he lunge towards baxk of net instead of taking step up field. Felt like he wanted the goal without taking a possible hit. Same with spallina on final try to tie it. Had room inside to go up field for better angle yes prob would have got hit but could have scored or even got a flag.

Better come out focused n ready for hungry princeton team. The faceoff battle was pretty close last year vs them. So D n O will have to be on point again.

ochoa def deserves some criticism no doubt. But think bowen does also. The two of them don’t have the foot speed to keep up with faster middies n both press out way to far with their lack of speed. Mean the goal to put harvard down 1 was on both bowen n ochoa. As once again ochoa pressed out way to far n got beat n bowen the slide guy just walks towards do after he’s on top of net n completely wiffs on slide. Almost like he thought just standing there guy would turn back but instead went easily around him.

If bowen slid full speed or even lay hit prob wouldnt of scored right at that moment. The approaches on a lot of slides were not good. They lunge to side to much instead of opening up n getting a solid base. Not to mention without jake only leaves 4 dmids n they played a ton of defense. I’m sure they were tired as offense wasn’t at times having long possessions. Like said think criticism is fair but think both bowen n ochoa both deserve it. Also flirardi for that tying long pole goal not running back n being beat was terrible. I get he’s still adjusting but it’s hurt at times.

I personally like beck as third close d. Yes was right move for maryland putting chuck K there. But we do miss chuck K at lsm at times. With princeton n that midfield think need beck back down low n gotta put chuck k back at lsm.

I thought we were going to defeat our competition with the same authority as we did in dispatching St. Josephs. I guess there are many things we haven't addressed - like winning face - offs but then again would we be able to do anything with the ball when we are on offense?

Is Harvard really that good? Perhaps the #2 ranking before season's inaugural was a pipe dream and we were fortunate vs. Maryland? Or are the Ivies very good teams?

I am naive about la crosse, don't know all the nuances of the game, but just the thought of Harvard, (little boys running around in knee socks and school blazers with books in their knapsacks on their backs, one eye on the ball so it doesn't interrupt their reading of their current course of study), not really caring about the game but their father said they had to play a sport is very far from actuality, very far.

Could be a very interesting season. Do we play Hofstra? Are we following Autry and his boys down the same path? Jezus! Perhaps JermyCuse should message Gait and tell him his thoughts.
Honestly even if Jake is heath we should move McCarthy. Hes been outstanding when he has played at ssdm. He can make a major impact playing both ways

I know your being facetious but McCarthy belongs at SSDM. When he's seen time there hes more then held his own hes looked great. He has the skill set to be a true old school two way middie. His accuracy makes running him on the 1st midline alone a waste because he cant put enough good looks on cage.

He and Spallina when healthy would make an outstanding starting ssdm unit. SU has more then enough middies to cover his absence, he needs to play at ssdm.

So after going back and watching extended highlights/looking over the stats this game I had these thoughts:

While the team was uneven at times damn was this a winnable game!

No doubt the last 3 goals Harvard got after Cuse is up 12-10 were tough to watch (I mean giving up a pole goal at that time of the game, where was the slide you cannot fall asleep there, and Kittleberger did not need to go for a take away check on the last goal come on kid just play solid position!) Add in Harvard getting that fluky goal where the ball hits Chuck and bounces right to their guy on the crease, and talk about bounces not going your way but hey that's sports.

Liked seeing Rhoa get a hat-trick, would love to see him be more assertive at times.

I could be off on this and it's still early, but I really expected Bear to be more imposing out there in his 2nd year. I know we have a solid amount of talent on offense but I feel like they need more out of him.

I watched extended highlights of the Princeton/MD game and obviously they have a really good offense but it didn't look like Ruppel could stop anything today. McMeekin and Croddick were both well below 50% respectively so my initial thought is expect a high scoring game next week.

I like the idea of doing a Friday/Sunday game in terms of paying off down the road but I am a little concerned about the schedule in general, certainly doesn't feel like there's any breathing room.
